jimfoxy
Is it just me or are others noticing a significant drop in aphid numbers this year?

mantrid
Is it just me or are others noticing a significant drop in aphid numbers this year? Cold winter has probably decimated eggs and hibernating adults. Don't wory they will be back with a vengence as summer approaches and they start doing the biz. jimfoxy
Well, it seems the Wintering population was pretty low but right now there are loads of them flying around. They particularly like my Darlingtonia shoots. I keep squashing them when I see them so hopefully they won't get a hold...
gotcher
Those that are flying around are most likely will be small lace wings not greenfly . If you look you can see the darker stripe on them if not you will need your eyes testing .
Loakesy
Not seen any personally, but I seem to have a few deformed pitchers which could be attributed to them!

Nepenthes Nut
So thats what the lace wings look like... Anyone know what their larvae look like, I hear they are natural predators of pests...
Trev
So far I've managed to keep on top of them in the greenhouse, but I've never seen so many Greenfly outside. The trees in my woodland are completely covered, every tree has a covering of greenfly under every leaf, my car park has overhanging Hazel trees and my car constantly looks like someone's sprayed it with coke cola, and all the dead leaves then stick to it - natures equivalent of tarred and feathered :-) Trev. jimfoxy
So thats what the lace wings look like... Anyone know what their larvae look like, I hear they are natural predators of pests... These are not lacewings. They are aphids. Not sure what species yet. Trev - that ties in with my thought that the ones in my garden are mainly tree feeders. Edited June 13, 2009 by jimfoxy
