Veek
Anyone here ever tried taking leafcuttings of Cephalotus in only water? I stumbled upon some perfect boxes at work and I thought I give it a go. Curious to find out wether other persons have tried this before and wether they succeeded or not. Cheers, Veek

Veek
I'll let you guys now wether it works or fails completely. Hoping for the first off course.
gotcher
You could try small amount of water in the bottom then put cling film around the top and insert the cutting above the water . This way you are letting the cutting form roots by looking for water they should root quicker this way .
pulsar
considering the time it takes for the cephalotus to start to root. i think you will have very little chance of success i did get a few cutting to root years ago in swellgel(not quite swell gel but the same thing really)also had a few tp root in the rootit type gels had about 4 different types in at work so tried one of each but saying that the rooting success was only about 30% and using sphagnum moss i get about 95% success so a bit pointless using any other method
Veek
Gotchers way with inserting the cuttings above the water I don't know if it's good. If you try it this way I would just put the end of the cutting inside the water that way it reaches the water. but saying that the rooting success was only about 30% and using sphagnum moss i get about 95% success so a bit pointless using any other method It is just a test for fun just to see wether it works. I get good succes with the regular way but when it gets a litlle warmer the succes chances are getting slimmer though. Mark Anderson
Never new about doing Cephalotus this way, good to see it worked. I'll be trying this myself. How long did it take to root the cuttings?
SoLongFairWell
Certainly less fiddly way of rooting them..

Veek
Just water veek nothing else?? what size leaf?? I just used some demineralised water in a clear plastic box like you see on the picture. I have one box with rainwater as well but one of the 2 leaves is turning yellow. Of the 2 boxes I used with demineralised water all 4 of the leaves has roots growing. The leaves I used were normal, decent sized one's but it is bound to work with any decently pulled leaves. Very well done, when would it be the right time to take them from the water and pot them up? I'm not sure. Maybe it is better to wait until there are leaves growing. I'm gonna leave them in there for a litlle longer since in a couple of weeks I'll be going on a 2 week vacation. This way I'm sure they'll have enough water. Certainly less fiddly way of rooting them.. It has its advantages doing it this way. You're able to see the roots coming out. As to when the leaves are in the ground you don't dare to touch it and you can only have to color of the leaves to judge wether your leaves are still in a good shape. Maybe through the water way it is going to need some more acclimatisation after being potted up. Edited June 19, 2013 by Veek

Thanks dimitar Yes great work for finding this information out. Makes things easier (and cheaper too I guess). Apparently it works in rain water as well. Only this one doesn't have roots yet and the leave is turning yellow but it makes a leave:
