Forum Rules - Please Read.

CPUK continues to grow in both membership and number of posts. Success causes its own problems and in order to ensure that success continues into the future, it has now become necessary to formalise and post a set of rules. It is rare, but sometimes people join with the sole intention of causing trouble and/or damage to the forum.

We present here the first draft set of rules for the forum, These rules are not 'set in stone' and revisions may be made. We are now seeking the thoughts of the membership as a whole.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although the Administrator and Moderators of CPUK Forum will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, they can not be held responsible for message content. All posted messages express the views of the author. The owner or the representatives of CPUK Forum may remove, edit, move, or close topics that are not in accordance with these rules. The forum is moderated by volunteers who do their best to keep the forum a friendly place. Their job is to keep the forums productive and positive and their decisions are final. They are only human and sometimes mistakes are made. Abusive attacks via e-mail, Private Message or in any other way against the Administrator or any Moderator is wholly unacceptable and will result in an immediate ban. Any grievances should be reported to [email protected] so that they can be sorted out in a civilised manner.

CPUK is not the average forum. We are proud of the fact that while growing fast we continue to remain extremely friendly to both new and established members. When posting messages to the forum please keep the following points in mind:

1]> Do not post messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, racist, hateful, threatening, or otherwise offensive. Vigorous debate is encouraged, actively offensive behaviour is not. Please use good judgement when choosing user names, avatars, or images to post. Inappropriate content will be removed without notice.

2]> Personal attacks, rudeness, 'Flame Wars', insults to others, or arguments will not be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully. Any member who threatens anyone on the forum, via Private Message, email, or other means will be banned immediately and without notice.

3]> Before starting a new thread, please make use of the forum 'Search' facility. Your question may have been answered before.

4]> Do not post the same topic in more than one forum and consider an appropriate forum before posting your question. Take note of the forum descriptions on the main forum page.

5]> Use the 'Feedback' forum for forum related questions. The Moderators receive a large number of messages containing questions that may be answered on the forum and we do not have time to answer them all, Private Messages should only be used for issues that cannot be discussed in the public forums.

6]> Commercial advertising or selling may be allowed in the forums. If you are interested in advertising or selling, contact the forum owner at [email protected] prior to posting. Personal 'auction type' sales are not allowed in the Sales & Wants forums.

7]> Please do not ask questions and leave the forum after you have received the answer. Try to contribute something to the community that we have built here and help it continue to thrive and grow.

8]> Piracy and linking to pirated material is strictly prohibited.

9]> Posted images should be of a reasonable size. A maximum of 750 x 750 pixels is suggested. Larger images may be linked off-site.

10]> Respect the intellectual property rights of others. Copyrighted images and text must not be posted to the forum from web sites or other sources without the owner's permission. Do not copy images posted to the forum by members without their permission. All images and text are assumed to be copyright of the owner unless stated otherwise.

11]> Avatars should be no larger than 170 x 200 pixels with a file size of 60kb or smaller. Avatars must not be linked from other web sites without the owner’s permission. Rule 10]> applies.

12]> It is prohibited to use the CPUKforum in connection with any surveys, contests, pyramid schemes, chain letters, junk email, spamming or any duplicitous or unsolicited messages (commercial or otherwise).

13]> It is prohibited to harvest or otherwise collect information about others, including e-mail and IP addresses.

14]> Do not post messages simply to increase your number of posts. The number of posts on this board has no direct relation to the experience of a member.

15]> Register using only one user name and do not "flood" the board with posts that are off-topic. Creating multiple user accounts or flooding the board will be considered an attack on the forum and will result in you being banned from the forum and reported to your ISP.

By becoming a member you agree to adhere to these guidelines. These guidelines are subject to change and a current version is always available in the forums. Members are asked to follow these rules in order that we maintain the existing high standards on the forum and keep it a friendly place for everyone to visit and participate.

Thanks,

The CPUK Forum Staff

A flame war is a heated argument between two individuals, that results in those involved posting personal attacks on each other during or instead of debating the topic at hand.

Most forums have rules that forbid flaming. This is because the quality of conversation on a forum can be seriously degraded by a flame war. Topics can be "hijacked" by two people who would rather flame each other than discuss the subject of the thread.

Wasn't sure whether posting to this thread was within the rules, but seeing as others have.... :-)

Would totally agree that the forum is exceptionally high in standard - have been on others before where flaming and cattiness have been a real problem. Everyone is extremely friendly and the amount of information available is immense. Plus all those plants to increase one's collection...

Keep up the good work, mods. You ARE appreciated!

I was actually surprised that there hadn't been any rules. I am glad that they will be emplaced. There are two items I would like to comment about:

1) Someone once said that if one can't say it in front of your grandmother or a 3rd grader, it shouldn't be said in a public forum. For the most part, common sense and decency has prevailed. In one instance I was in shock that one member utilized a 4 letter word that should never have been used. Word filters DO exist and I think should be employed - and I am NOT referring to anything even smelling of censorship!

2)I may be unusual relative to most here, but when I joined the discussion forum, it was my first time. I had no clue as to how things things work or what a moderator was or PM's, avatars, SASEs, etc.. were. I was also pc & cp-challenged. Through assistance and patience of my forum member friends, I have learned a great deal. Much thanks to the people who have helped me along! What I am leading up to is this: Aside from the afore-mentioned obstacles I had to overcome, I was also unaware (until recently) of the "search" aid. I have used it and it is a great and wonderful tool. I just didn't join and realize of its existence and benefit until it was being mentioned on the forum itself to other members, often with links provided to previous discussions. There might be others that join who might be comparably as ill-equipped as I and will require some gentle patience.

I also initially also thought any reply was not needed (as previous post), but, again, as there are others here goes...........

100% behing the rules - nothing there that should upset anybodies fun. As with jimscott's comment - I hope no one feels 'restricted' due to being green behind the gills in any area. That's normally quite easy to spot and full allowance is made (by most...) all over the web - we all jumped in somewhere.
