FredG
Aldi are selling 10Kg bags of Decorative Cornish Granite@ £1.99 each. I'm not sure how to describe it, it's either a course grit or a very fine gravel. Certainly worth a look at at that price. It should be good for my Cypripedium(s) and of course I wouldn't be surprised if a Cephalotus or even a Darlingtonia end up in it
North West Neps
I went and had a look after reading your post as i had images in my head of having some "decorative" granite mixed with the sphagnum on the top of my windowsill pots. But, ermm........ hardly decorative is it ? Looks more like a potting mix to me ! Would it actually be any good for mixing with peat moss, maybe after a thorough washing ? I agree it's not a bad price at all if it was useable with cp's.
mobile
I collected some granite gravel/sand from my local quarry and used it in a coir mix for one of my Cephalotus. The plant doesn't seem to mind it. It is quite decorative too, as it is red granite. Of course, there are variations in granite composition from quarry to quarry. gardenofeden
Fred. I had a look at this and like it a lot. I would describe it as grit-sand, and tested some and it is acid in reaction. Looks to be quite a lot of quartz in it? I cannot get any reliably acid sand or grit around here of suitable consistency. Looks great as an additive to CP composts. I topped my psittacinas with it after repotting to suppress moss. I will definitely stock up.
Gaz
and at this price a good addition to the mix for many cacti and succulents too for those of us into that kind of thing
FredG
I just popped in for a couple of bags, They've reduced it to 99p to clear it. Grab it while you can. I had a decent stock in already but....I'll empty the boot when MrsG isn't looking.
