  1. Hey all, I don't post here too often, but I figured I'd better check since the issue with TF occurred. Just an FYI, the 10 pm Eastern Daylight Time auction end is still in force. If any bids slip through between the TF coming back online and the acution getting shut down by Andrew, they will be null and void. What a bummer! I was going to do some sniping of my own....
  2. I agree with Leo. My argetii slowed durring the summer when we had a heat wave. Now, with the winter temp drops in my terrarium, it's started back up again.
  3. Hen, Mirandas are fantastic neps! Mine survives when I forget to water for days on end, is very tollerant of temperatures, humidity & lighting conditions. Really a very forgiving hybrid. You won't be disapointed.

    3 node cutting

Dewy, Yes, you can, but you'll have to treat it like a cutting until it develops a root system of its own.
  5. Sounds like a period of adjustment to me. Combine lower humidity & south window (sun burn), you have a recipe for shock. With your humidity levels, though, it should recover. Oh, and I don't think the cooler temps would cause any problem as this is a highland plant.
  6. Hi all, I grow mine in LFS with a decent amount of orchid mix thrown in for "chunk." It seems to be happy with this. Growing and pitchering just fine (except for that time I forgot to water it for too long...) Interesting note: Inspite of other reports, I had a pitcher form hanging over the pot edge, as apposed to being nestled in the media.
  7. I find it interesting how the same species is getting listed all the way from "picky as a rajah" to "almost as tough as a sanguinea." I think there must be a lot of individual variation within this species. You may have just had the bad luck of getting a finiky individual. My ramspina arived with no pitchers. About two weeks later I noticed the first bud inflating. This would seem to indicate that shipping did not stress it too much (only in the mail for one night). Otherwise, though, I do have it in very favorble conditions (high 50's low 60's night, 75 to 85 or so durring the day, humidity between 65 and 85...not sure exactly, but it's a partially covered tank)
  8. Remember, while there is any green, there is still hope. I got an amp a when I was a rank newbie, and abused the poor thing right terribly. So, after being shipped bare root, and then tended to by inexperienced hands (which were learning, so that was only a month or two of additional abuse), it took a YEAR to do anything. Now, forget about it. The darn thing is UNSTOPABLE. Currently one of my favorites.
  9. Kazr, I find LFS in the Home Depot near me...Yours might just have been temporarily out. If you do go back to HD, look for a clear bag of light tan colored dried moss. And it WILL say spagnum moss on the bag. as for easy highlanders, well, I agree with what most people above have said... I would like to add, though, that you may want to concider N. spectabilis. This plant rocks. I've only had it for a few weeks, and have two new pitchers. Just a beautiful and rewarding plant. Mine is growing in a tank, though, and I haven't experimented with it's hardiness. Someone else would have to comment on that.
  10. What have you got against hybrids? You elitest, you! N. x 'Miranda' , though common, is a wonderful hybrid. But for pure species, N. khasiana is reputed to be fairly easy. Don't know how fast it grows (mine is only now starting to grow after a YEAR of shipping shock...post office played soccer...or football, I guess, as this is a European sight...with the box), but I've seen pictures of big ones, so I know it goes get very large. I also had really good luck growing N. fusca on my deck railing this summer.
  11. My amp is in LFS with some orchid mix (about 3 to 1, maybe 4 to 1, so mostly LFS) and is growing very well. My bical is in the same mix, and can't seem to make up its mind. It will grow like gangbusters for 3 or 4 months, then loose most of the leaves and pitchers in one fell swoop, and start over. :?
  12. In my limmited experience, basal growth can happen any time...But then again, I DO grow many neps in a large tank, so they don't really get seasons.
  13. Hey Loaky, that's weird. Maybe tendril attachment is only indicitive in mature pitchers? Huh.
