  1. I'm sorry, I don't. I've traded/sold all of my Cephs.

    My nepenthes

Amazing plants! N. flava and aristolochioides are my favorite species and yours are amazing! And I've never noticed how beautiful N.ephippiata is. What are your temperatures?
  4. Any thoughts on refrigerator vs window A/C unit?
  5. It suprises me to see so many positive responses. I've always read that N. Jacquelineae is finicky and hard to get to pitcher. I've only had my plant for a few weeks so I can't speak from experience but it encouraging to hear.

    Fertilizing

I use Maxsea fertilizer in the pitchers of my Neps and other CPs. It seems to work pretty good. I've tried drenching with coffee but it keeps stunting my live sphagnum moss. This really ticks me off since I've read that coffee really helps sphagnum. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Too strong maybe?
  7. I ordered from petflytrap.com when I first started buying carnivorous plants. Compared to the other online stores I've bought from, petflytrap.com is very overpriced and the plants I got weren't healthy.
  8. Nice plant! It looks like its time for a bigger pot.
  9. For those that use the fridge for dormancy to protect your plants from long freezes, when do you bring the plants outside in the spring? In Missouri, we are still seeing some nights dip below freezing but they days are getting into the 40's and 50's F. Right now I'm thinking about planting my them outside some time mid March but I'm a little worried about the frost we might have even up until April.
  10. Congrats! I don't seem to have as much success with pitcher pullings as I do with leaf pullings. Great job!
  11. One of my Cephs that I got this summer is much more red than any of my other Cephs in my collection. Here is a side by side comparison to another Ceph. Note these plants are grown side by side in the same potting mix and are fertilized the exact same way. I'm not labeling this as a different cultivar or anything, just thought it was interesting.
  12. To those that have read bad things about Black Jungle, I just received an order from them this week. The plants were a good size for the price and were packaged very well. Everything was very healthy. I would certainly purchase from them again.
  13. The newest pitcher on my N. eymae (Wistuba) has a flared peristome. I was wondering why this pitcher is different than any of the pitchers before it. It has been reliably producing pitchers but this newest pitcher propped itself up on another pot so the pitcher inflated above the roots. I was wondering if this situation caused the pitcher to grow differently (is this an intermediate pitcher?) or is this just a new feature of the pitchers that is just now showing itself? Typical old pitcher New flared pitcher
  14. It is growing under 4 32W florescent shop lights. As for substrate - I'm not 100% sure since it was shipped potted. As far as I can tell, its in 50/50 LFSM/perlite.
  15. I wouldn't take any cuttings until the plants have settled in and are actively growing. Its a great idea to propagate for backup, but not at the risk of the parent plant.
  16. I use a mixture of 2 parts sand to 1 part peat with a 5 to 10 mm top covering of pure sand. Remember that Ceph's don't like a lot of water so a good draining mixture is critical. I always top water mine (the top covering of sand prevents crown rot) and don't let them sit in water (besides the excess water from top watering)
  17. I bought this plant back in August. It came potted an arrived in pretty good shape. It opened it's first pitcher this past weekend. I love this species! When I got it, 8/22 Pitcher developing 9/15 Fully inflated and opened pitcher 10/05
  18. You can usually find silica sand at pool supply stores. I buy 20 lb bags for around $8
  19. In my opinion, you don't have enough light in there. I would suggest something like these: http://www.lowes.com/pd_245546-58659-NXU-6...oductId=3168049 They are pretty cheap in the US ($18.00 each, bulbs are something like $1.50 each) and provide sufficient light for my Heliamphora. I use 2 fixtures per grow rack and my plants color up nicely.
  20. Andreas... you had to post those pictures just to tempt me to buy more Heliamphora..... That's not even fair. My grow rack is almost full! On topic: I have ordered from Andreas a few times with great results each time. I would say he does an outstanding job of shipping - remember he is sending fragile plants halfway around the world while dealing with customs and weather. I have never had a plant from him die and he has always done a great job of communicating.
  21. Thanks. I was referring to the hair. I thought it might be some kind of mold or fungus.
  22. Does anyone know what this is? I've had my N. Lowii for a few weeks. I have it covered with a ziplock bag for humidity. The plant seems to be doing fine, but I just noticed this today.

    Feeding

Maxsea plant food. I used to use Orchid Plus but found that while it did increase plant growth, it resulted in a significantly increased level of pitcher loss. I have not experienced the same with Maxsea
  24. I just received a N. Lowii and N. Glabrata in the mail. I potted them up in a mixture of LFSM, perlite and orchid bark. Should I cover with a plastic bag to provide humidity while they settle in?
