  1. I guess you have a N. Man Pauline.
  2. and trusmadiensis = N. lowii x. macrophylla That was a great meeting, and nice pics!
  3. I grow mine in the cooler side of my lowland tank, high about 70 F and low about 50 F. I grow it in 1 part sphagnum and one part orchid bark. I water from the top. Good luck. Shawn
  4. Hey all, I just got a large pot that is about one and a half feet in diameter and about 5 inches deep and was wondering if anyone new of any neps that liked shallow wide pots. I already have a N. rajah and argentii in it but they are small and i would like to add a few others to that pot and make some new pots of the same size. Thanks, Shawn
  5. N. tobica, alata, ventrata are just a few that I find easy. And belive it or not, I find N. aristolochiodies to be my best grower, although some would probably argue that...
  6. That is amazing! Mine is only a darkish brown with red perisone. Well done, and the others are fantastic as well.
  7. Those are amazing! Is that the normal color of the aristo or is that an older pitcher?
  8. Thats cool, but im not sure if a mexican ping is the best choice for a bog garden. From what Ive heard they like it a little dryer. Someone correct me if im wrong but its just a thought. Shawn
  9. Wow, I was way off on spelling. It will take me a while to get the spelling right.
  10. I dont currently have shizandria but I keep prolifera and adelae in a layer of dead lfs and a top dressing of live sphagnum. They are in a closed plastic container with no holes so the humidity is very high. I keep them in filtered light under growlights. Ive never had a problem with fungus for anyone wondering about that. I say just leave it alone and if it stays happy, leave it alone, if it starts to kick the bucket, try something else. My setup works well for me and is just a suggestion. Shawn
  11. I would think that some tropical urtics like calcifida or a clump of genlisa would do well. But what amphibians are you planning on keeping?
  12. I dont use that but I do use a zoo med heat pad that goes on the bottom or side of your tank. This seems to work well but im interested to see what other people say about the bulb as I have also been curious about it.
  13. OK, im going to repot my N. rajah. It is in a small pot and needs it. Right now its in pure orchid bark. I want to repot it into pure lfs or lfs and orchid bark. But im opting for the pure LFS. Is this a good medium for this plant( this is what I have all my other neps in but I just want to make sure). Ive heard complaints about sphagnum getting to compact and kiling the plant, and I do keep an eye out for this but ive had no problems yet. Also, is this a good time of year to repot? Any advice is great as Ive never repoted my rajah before. Thanks, Shawn
  14. Ok, and some of my peltatas are comming up so im going to send you them instead of dormant tubers. They are well established tubers and are starting to grow for the winter.
  15. Hi all, Ive stratified my tuberous drosera seeds over the summer and have sowed them a few weeks to go. But it just dawned on me that mabey they wont germinate outside. It have them where I keep my adult tubers and thought thats were they should be. My question is should I leave them outside or bring them in an place them in a bag and under lights?
  16. Im not in the UK but Ive been growing my rajah outside year round for almost 2 years. We have a very mild climate here with lows in the 40s and highs in the upper 80s in summer with occasional 90s, in which case I bring them in for a while. It has pitchered for me a few times and seems to be doing fine.
  17. Great plants! I really hope to make it to the next meeting. I hope to see everyone there and some new faces? Im glad were having another pot luck and plant exchange. It was really fun last year!
  18. Thats weird how fast yours are growing Nick. I think I may get another and try it as an intermediate and see how it does. Time for experimenting!!!
  19. On nepenthesaroundthehouse.com, he says that he lost his burbidgeaes when it got cooler, and in The savage garden, peter says "I have found this species easy to grow with nightly lows around 60 degrees. Any lower and the plant is reluctant to pitcher." I think that our burbidgeaes had so many pitchers was becaues Don kept them warm. Although mine has made 2 leaves since Ive had it, it hasent pitchered.
  20. I would agree. My burbidgeae is quite slow. I have also heard that it dosent pitcher when the temps get cooler. What are your temps? also, it may just be in shock from shipping and such still. mine took a while before it started growing again and still hasent pitchered, and I got it last march!
  21. I think that looks pretty good. I personally fill pots with peat/sand and sprinkle the seeds on top then put them into a plastic bag. I got 100% germination with that method. Good Luck!

I would suggest D. alicae, they dont get that big, and produce very abundant seeds for carpeting.
  23. I do have a slipper orchid and an epidendrum from nick. Im thinking of putting it either outside or by my lowland tank in room temp and filtered light from a 2 tube flourescent.
  24. I would lay landmines but then theres the risk of shrapnal hitting the plants. I dont know what ones im going to grow yet but I will just keep them away from the cats to be safe.
  25. Hi all, I want to get into orchids now and had a question. Are orchids toxic to cats? I have 3 kitties running around and dont want them to get sick. Thanks! Shawn
