  1. Concerning mothballs, a recent EU regulation has forbidden them to be marketed and sold in bulk -that's why it is becoming a bit difficult to find them nowadays-, unless they are covered with a plastic mesh case. Apparently it has something to do with traces left on fabrics if they are stored for long time in contact.
  2. Transplant NOW :)
  3. Thought I should share in this thread a photo of the strange flower of a Bulbophyllum wendlandianum which has just flowered to me.
  4. The thing with seeds, especially of some plants like roses, is that they can take many weeks before (and of course IF) they germinate. In the meantime, the time margin to leave negative feedback has passed, hence the high rates at feedback on these seed sellers. I doubt it if one can even get these seeds to germinate correctly, but even if he does so, imagine the time it will take to get a flowering plant until he discovers its a plain white cultivar.... Seed has always been a good business on ebay..
  5. I think it is something normal, every thing that has in a one way or another do with bidding, betting etc, is prone to these huge extraordinary prices... It is the stock market bubble effect... Ebay has proved innovating in the way trades are done, but this brought out several drawbacks. The ease of shopping, the occasional bargains, the "trend" (got mine from ebay!) make people thinking that ebay is more of a shop with nice prices instead of individual sellers. So they tend to conclude that the prices listed there are the cheapest available. And of course capable sellers are (and will be) always there to make profit out of it since the transactions made there are perfectly legal...
  6. Strange things, these plants are... After the two plantlets, the whole plant decided to wake up after a dormancy of almost 9 months and it started to develop.. Here's a picture taken together with the other plant whose photo I posted earlier, already repoted, grown up and even flowering...
  7. Sativ, do you recycle the water that is collected from the bottom drain, or you just throw it away? Can it be used again? And another question as I'm thinking of constructing a misting system myself, what sort of pump (max pressure) do you use?
  8. I just thought I should share with you a nice book about dangerous and peculiar plants.. It is not about CPs but it contains some of them too. It is about all these plants that are either poisonous, dangerous, intoxicating, invasive or simply peculiar. Nice binding, historical background, awesome drawings and a small chapter for cps included. It contains a very nice picture of an etching at the inner front page featuring a carnivorous plant synthesis with a ping, a vft and a S.purpurea leaf with a mouse above them.. At the end of the book, there is a list of public gardens that feature dangerous plants collections. One of them seems quite spooky, located in Alnwick, UK, beneath the castle that the Harry Potter films were filmed, featuring dangerous, poisonous and even prohibited plants. Has anyone been there? Is there a CP section too?
  9. Quite surprisingly, I decided not to let go of this plant, and checking it out this week I saw two new plantlets growing from the roots of the seemingly dead one..!
  10. I think you should edit your post a bit, else it would be quite difficult to get any straight answers...
  11. Some professional RO systems, used for providing purified water to households, use a re-mineral post processing stage, in which the cleaned water gets enriched with minerals (ie salts, ie high TDS) in order to make it tastier for human conumption.
  12. Well, it certainly looks like the one I use (and at about the same price). Be sure to ask the seller if he can provide extra membranes and at what cost if you need them at the future. A 50 gallon filter is the minimum and is OK, but if you have a large plant collection, waiting for the RO water to come out can be frustrating so opt for a 75 gal filter or bigger.
  13. Well for RO units for use at CPs, one has to search for the ones for aquaristic use. They are usually much cheaper and they do their job just fine.. A 3-stage one is sufficient, no need for the more expensive 4stages ones. I use one of these systems and am very satisfied. Beware of the ones sold for providing potable water, as there is an extra stage at the end that adds some elements to the -cleaned- water in order to make it tastier, mainly salts...
  14. Thanks, I'll probably rearrange the setup in winter, or perhaps take the whole bucket somewhere a bit more protected, but at the moment it is summer heat that worries me. A couple of temperate pings are native over here, but they are usually found in high altitudes, not on sea level as my setup is.
  15. Hi all, I decided to construct a barrel bog by my pond and put some hardy CPs on it. I was wondering if I could put some temperate pings along with the usual hardy suspects (Sarras-D.capensis-Dionaeas) as the temperature might rise quite high during the summer. I presume that Darlingtonia is also out of the question due to the high temperatures. What about Cephs if I put them with their pot and have them removed in winter? Here's a photo of the new construction:
