UtricSeb
Hello, I am creating this post for sharing pictures of my Pinguicula plants. Let's start with Pinguicula esseriana that is flowering for me for the first time in 7 years. Cool weather was the key: Hope you like it! I am really enjoying it here. jimscott
Avery? Not Pinguiculaman?
UtricSeb
Haha jim, when I say Avery it's because of his simillar topics with all of his plants. Of course, Joseph is an inspiration for a Pinguicula collection. Happy growing, Sebastian
jimscott
LLOL! I thought Avery was... is a girl or woman..... a female type person. Oh yeah, nice flower pics!

kisscool_38
Really strange coloration! Please, post a picture when it is fully opened. Edited February 21, 2018 by kisscool_38
UtricSeb
Hi Aymeric, Of course I'll do :) What is strange about the colour? This is my first time with P.lusitanica so I can't tell the difference.
James O'Neill
It looks normal to me.
kisscool_38
It's seems quite blue/violet on those pics. P. lusitanica has an orange to brownish corolla tube with white lobes, and a yellow throat appendage.
James O'Neill
The wild ones here have the same coloration as this one.
UtricSeb
That's interesting. Maybe there are two clones being mentioned here? Aymeric, do you have a picture of yours?
kisscool_38
@ James: That's a really interesting fact, should we have some pics please? We have to find know some pics from England, Spain and Portugal. to compare. @ Sebastian: We are not talking about clones but natural variation among wild populations. In France, I know one can find some populations with the color I described above, and some hypochromatic populations. I will post pictures of the "normal" coloration next week (I'm leaving now for a few-day fieldtrip).
UtricSeb
Aymeric: It will be interesting to see pictures of other variations in this species. Good luck in your fieldtrip.

kisscool_38
Hello both of you, Here is a (bad quality) picture of my Pinguicula lusitanica from north west of France: Edited February 21, 2018 by kisscool_38
James O'Neill
We definitely DO NOT get flowers that colour here. I'll send you seeds as soon as I can.
UtricSeb
Here is the open flower from my plant, it opened on saturday and lasted until monday. A very short time compared with the mexican species. Anybody knows if this species is autopollinating or needs some help? Hope you like it! James O'Neill
Beautiful. The exact colour of flower we get here.
Tim Caldwell
Beautiful. The exact colour of flower we get here. I've never really grown pings, but that species is one of my favourites, with it's tightly rolled leaves. I think it was a species with that characteristic that is believed to have evolved into the genus Genlisea, and from there ultimately into Utricularia. James, what species of CPs do you come across in Ireland? Your country is famous for its abundance of bogs! Cheers, Tim
