  1. Naga A Naga is a God or other powerful entity that takes the form of a snake. The Naga sometimes has multiple heads, including three-headed forms.
  2. Hello Fellow Sarr Lovers- Do any of you folks know anything about this S. 'Garcon Rose'? (besides being expensive). http://www.ebay.com/...=item20d643b4b0 I know the seller says there isn't much info on it, but I thought I'd ask. To all those who reply, thanks. Good Growing, E
  3. Hello Fellow Sarr Heads- Earlier this year, we lost one of the great pioneers in the sarr world, Mr. Bob Hanrahan. Here is a video compiled of pics of sarrs that he took. Grab a bowl of popcorn, pull up a chair and enjoy the wonders of his world. E ps. if this video has been posted before, sorry.
  4. I don't know if this well help, but the packaging looks like this on the USA side: http://www.tindaraorchids.com/images/supplies/maxsea_new.jpg Good Growing, E
  5. Great tutorial their Yann Pictures are worth a thousand words, thanks. Good Growing to you, E
  6. Hiya FILLTHEHOLE- I'm not sure if you can find this product on your side of the pond, but there was a nice long thread here in the states regarding a fertilizing product called "Maxsea". http://www.terraforums.com/forums/showthre...ighlight=maxsea Hope it helps. Good Growing, E
  7. Hiya Rachel- Don't know if you started your winter dormancy yet, but here is a very detailed picture dairy of someone placing his CP's into winter dormancy. http://gold.mylargescale.com/Scottychaos/CP/page2.html Boy, mowing everything down seems . . . scary. Hope it helps, E
  8. Hiya Moble and Dicon- The artificial light is actually outside the terrarium and it doesn't raise the internal temp too much, maybe 3 degrees at most. I can't see that temp and humidity would be an issue because it is quite high, which the bicals thrive on (think turkish sauna). On another board, someone suggested that I just slowly add the artificial photoperiod and increase it as the plant adjusts to it. Good Growing, E
  9. Hiya Fellow Nepers- About 6 weeks ago, I acquired a 10" bical. It is being grown in a 50 gal hex terror-ium (yes, I have a greenhouse, just wanna keep it in the living room where I can see it daily ) with a humidity and temp about 90. It is set very near to a southern window which currently gets whatever sun comes out here in the NW (which is about 8 hours a day). I believe its acclimating well, it is almost done throwing out its first leaf for me. But here is the weird thing, so I'm thinking, to supplement its photoperiod with a some artificial light. So I hit it with a 250w CFL grow light bulb at 12" away early in the morning. I go back to check on it 3 hours later, the new leaf went limp. Looked like it needed a shot of viagara. So I turned the light off and just let the natural light from the window come through. An hour later, the leaf looked liked the blue pill kicked in. Should I just do without the supplemental light, or just increase the light distance? I really don't want to stress it out Comments, advice, info? Any help woud be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good growing E
  10. Hiya Jimfoxy- I was able to get a reply from Mr. Hanrahan and he said that photo was indeed taken on his property. The cameraman (David) just used a flash for that shot and it wasn't touched up at all. According to Mr. Hanrahan, the plant ususally looks like that all year. Unfortunately he does not proprigate any of his plants on his property for sale The search goes on. Good Growing, E
  11. Here Ya Go, Jimfoxy. Hope it helps. http://www.generasian.ca/cp_north.html Good Growing, E
  12. Hello Fellow Sarr Peeps- Came across this pic and fell in love with the plant. But I was wondering if it had a more well known name than what came with it . . . "Sarracenia leucophylla, rare red" Would love add this little "poppit" to my collection. Any info would greatly appreciated. http://www.generasian.ca/images/DW_BH_leucophylla_red.jpg Good Growing, E
  13. I know Carow doesn't ship to the USA, but is there anyone in the states lucky enough have his clones? Or have for sale? Thanks, E
  14. Hiya JensB- So, the N. mac with the spike/cog wheel like persitome is from AW and the nicely unfiorm peristome N. mac is from Carow? Thanks, E
  15. Hiya Rachel- Here's another option for ya. Kinda more of a "Rough and Tumble" version he, he, he. http://pitcherplants.proboards.com/index.c...amp;thread=7573 E
  16. Hiya Rachel- Jimfoxy has the right idea. Here is what Sarracenia Northwest (cobraplants.com) has to say about overwintering a sarracenia "Dana's Delight": "That Sarracenia hybrid is a North American plant that does overwinter outside in cold weather, however; in zone 5 might need some protection from extreme cold. You can bring it in to a cold room or garage after it has gone dormant in the Fall with the lower light photoperiod and colder weather, just make sure to keep it's soil slightly moist during winter and keep it in temperatures over 30 degrees while it is in a pot as it can be freeze dried by colder weather. Make sure the cold space you use has some light, like a window in a garage, as that would provide the plant with a natural way to time it's exit from dormancy. In February, or after fear of any freezing weather occurs there, you can bring it back out to resume spring growth next year. An alternative is placing the plant in the refrigerator if you have no other way to overwinter it outside. You can leave the plant out in fall until the first light frosts occur, then bring it in and place it in the fridge, not the freezer, if you have space (this will keep it at about 40 degrees which is a good temperature to overwinter most North American carnivorous plants). Spray it occasionally with sulfur or neem oil based fungicides, not soap based one's, and let it stay there until spring. Sarracenias need a dormant period in winter to survive in the long term just like a garden plant does. A Sarracenia that gets full sun and winter dormancy will often live for decades, just getting bigger and more numerous. Keep up the good care for your Sarracenia." Good Luck E
  17. Thanks Mags, good find I'll post it on another board that is also discussing my mystery nep. E
  18. Hiya Icarus- Any chance can you post pics of your N. lowii? I've viewed most of all the N. lowii pics on CP Photofider, and couldn't find a bristless N. lowii the same size as mine. Thanks and Good Growing, E
  19. Hiya Mags- I pointed that out to another well known CP'er grower and he mentioned he has seen some lowii similar in size to mine that did not have any under lid hairs till later. He mentions that since it is a recent acquirement of mine, that I should let it pitcher at least two more times to finally figure out what it is. Which I think makes sense. Good Growing, E
  20. Hiya Benethes- I would rather not mention who sold it to me, again I don't believe this person intended to rip me or would be someone other CP'ers should worry about. This person is a memeber here and at least another CP forum that I know of. Good Growing, E ps. Simon, so far the majority of other CP'ers agree with your guess, but there are a few that says possible lowii.
  21. Hiya Fellow CP'ers Recently I purchased what I thought was a N. macrophylla, but looking at its newest pitcher, it is obviously not. I have contacted the person who sold me this plant, but he has not yet responded. I believe he had sold me this plant on good faith, but it unfortunately is one of those neps that needed some growing out to truly verify its species. Accoriding to this person, he got it from Andreas Wistuba about 3-4 years ago as a N. macrophylla, but it had no clone ID, the diameter of the plant is about the plant is about 5-6" and the pitcher in the pic is 2" tall including lid. Here are some pics and lemme know what you folks think. Any guesses, info, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all those who respond Good Growing, E
  22. D'OH . . . sorry, didn't realize it was already posted here before. My bad
  23. Hiya Fellow Nep Heads- A fellow nep grower created this chart for his own reference, but I asked if I could share it with other growers and he said yes, but remember this is just a general range, not something set in stone. The author mentions: "They show typical day and night temp at each extreme of the altitude range and the big band in the middle gives the day / night extreme at the average altitude of its range. They are all theoretical (i.e. I didn't go there and measure it) and they don't take into account the attitude of the plants to the sun! So use with caution." Hope this comes in handy. E
  24. http://gardenandgun.com/article/bog-man-an...s-secret-garden A man who truely dedicates his entire life to these plants. Personally, if I had amassed a huge collection of rare and irreplaceable "anything", I wouldn't make it publicly known, now his "secret garden" isn't so . . . secret. Plus, is that $10,000 cp that he is referring to, the N. kinabaluensis that they mention at the end of the article? I'd really like to know. Enjoy, E ps. if it has been posted before, sorry. And mods, please delete.
