Sarracenia Seeds Germinated In Seed Head

Recommended Posts

Eager to grow.

Germination before seed is shed is I believe not uncommon in many plants. It's the first time I've seen it in Sarracenia and in theory it shouldn't happen, as seed is "programmed" to lie dormant until the following spring.

it is aparrently very common(at least it is in the US) to have seeds germinate in the seed pod. while the seeds are still in the pod and are very fresh, they dont have the germination inhibiting chemical(or whatever it is) fully "activated". its tough to explaine. this has happened to me this year...but with drosera. 2 weeks ago my first D. intermedia pods started to yellow. ripe. i opened the pod and immediately sowed the seeds indoors. they germinated a few days ago. so now those seedlings are back outside so they can have a dormancy.
