Muel
Not sure on the id of this but it flowered this year anyway (Maybe S. gettleffii?) . Can't tell so much on the picture but the flower was covered in purple hair. Really pretty I was a bit let down with the smell though. It wasn't the overwhelming odour of faeces and rotten meat I was hoping for that would have upset my house-mates (though on the other hand that's a very good thing as I would have had to share said aroma!!); more of a musty smell close up. Ian_P
That's a really interesting flower. After a quick Google search, it looks like you are right about the species. Hope it continues to flower for you. Best regards, Ian.

Gaz
Nice plant and flower. I've been giving mine (Stapelias, Huernias etc) very small amounts of water about once a month since October but only on days which were bright and had lower humidity levels. That's for those in the greenhouse, the ones inside are getting more water but at a similar frequency.

Gaz
thanks Garry,a little water once a month it is then Just bear in mind Corky that if the compost is still moist from the last water then it doesn't need any more yet at this time of year. Temperature also has a part to play, my Stapeliads in the greenhouse are in heated propagators (1 at min 10C the other at min 14C) with that part of the greenhouse so far not dropping below about 10-11C either. If your temps are dropping below 10 then I'd guess you need to water even less. The usual advice is...if in doubt...don't because cold and wet will almost certainly rot them. Not so much of a problem if they're indoors of course.
Muel
Oops didn't even notice replies on this topic haha sorry. I just water mine as it's a houseplant about once a week. I water a bit less in the winter, maybe every other week but I don't really worry about it much. Heres a pic of the flowers this year. The smell seems worse this time round too, though that could be to do with the volume of flowers it keeps chucking out! It's been flowering for aaaages now. Every time one drops off another is ready to open.
Muel
Quick update. This thing has gone insane flowering this year. It's been pretty much non-stop. Still kicking out buds now. I'm getting fed up of my bedroom smelling musty now though so I might cut the rest of the buds off yet
