Dear CP-enthusiasts,

as a "Santa Claus Present" for all of you we provide (start December 6, "Nikolaustag" in Germany) world-wide our report on the world largest nursery for tropical pitcher plants BORNEO EXOTICS in a good resolution (about 550 MB) as GRATIS-DOWNLOAD. The great feedback for our free download of "Drosera: Snap-Tentacles And Runway Lights", as well as the excellent co-operation with Aydin Dilber and EZTV convinced us to add even one more film. Please enjoy it!!

This link to EZTV shows at the moment only the description, but will enable the download as soon as it is released Thursday, December 6: http://www.eztv.it/index.php?main=show&id=652

A short description of our film by Aydin:

Nepenthes or tropical pitcher plants are considered from some the royalties among carnivorous plants. In nature they grow as climbing or scrambling vines. Most species are found in Southeast Asia, their center of distribution being the island of Borneo. There are currently over 90 different known species.

Nepenthes are called pitcher plants because from their leaves originates the trap used to capture insects, frogs even small rodents in form of a pitcher. The victims are attracted by sweet secretions and fall into the pitcher. Not being able to get out once fallen, they get slowly digested inside the pitcher. Following this link you can see that Nepenthes can catch and digest a mouse!!

In December 2004 the authors have been invited by Robert Cantley and Diana Williams (owner of Borneo Exotics) to visit and film the world largest production of tropical pitcher plants in Sri Lanka. The famous Robert Cantley himself guides them through his lowland nurseries near the capital Colombo, and through his highland greenhouses built in the middle of huge tea-plantations in the mountains near Nuwara Eliya. Starting from seeds at a sterile tissue culture laboratory, all plants are artificially propagated, absolutely nothing comes from nature as Robert proudly reports. About 35 different species/varieties of beautiful Nepenthes are shown in this movie, some new species for the first time ever. A feast for the eyes of every CP-enthusiast.

The washing and packaging of plants for world-wide delivery is shown.

You will also see that the artificial production of registered clones may cause totally unexpected results: the unbelievable necessity to destroy large amounts of Nepenthes by burning !!

On the 26th December 2004, only one day after the filming at Borneo Exotics was done, the authors experienced the terrible tsunami on the coast south of Colombo. Only the fact that their hotel "Mount Lavinia" - luckily recommended by Robert Cantley - is atop of a rock, just tall enough to provide shelter from the raging sea, allowed the authors to return home healthy and with all videos and equipment intact.

Thanks Siggi. It was good to see how BE actually handles their plants. Truly marvellous facility. That queen of hearts is my favourite. However, It was unfortunate not to see the big rajah apart from that small ones. ;)

Just can't get it to work

Azureus doesn't seem to want to launch on my trusty old iBook. If anyone can think of an alternative way of viewing I'd be very, very grateful.

Azureus is usually the best bit torrent client on Mac and is strange that it does not work for you. Alternatively you can try transmission

http://transmission.m0k.org/

then to view it use vlc player:

silly question perhaps, but why is it not available as an MPEG download or similar? Not sure about all this torrent stuff...

ok the full answer would be WAY too long and out of the scope of this forum

the short answer is that there are a lot of good reasons to do it this way as EZTV with more than one million hits per day has a lot of experience in this kind of distribution.

So I just ask you to trust us and best is if you are new to torrenting to install uTorrent if on Windows or Azureus if on Mac and give it a go.

If you have troubles refer to the link I have given in my previous post.

Oh and the end file is AVI gives better quality and smaller size than MPEG

if you want more info here is a link with good links in it on the subject matter

Thank you very much for your kind comments and critics at this place and/or posted by email. Just to keep you informed: Our "Santa Claus Present" has been downloaded more than 11'000 times between December 6 and christmas via EZTV, Mininova and BT-chat (source Aydin Dilber). And yes, the film remains available as long as enough seeders are active.

Happy New Year to all of you!
