Drosophyllum forms

Recommended Posts

Last year I tried to raise Drosophyllum from seed and am delighted that I now have a couple of really nice plants (thanks to the CPS seed bank). Cheered by my success I was wondering how many different forms of this plant exist? Also, what is the difference between the typical form and the plant from Alfenn in Portugal? Thanks in anticipation.

There are no named forms of Drosophyllum lusitanicum, there are just different location names, from where the seed was originally collected.

There does seem to be a degree of variation in size, flower shape and shade of yellow. How much of this is due to genetic differences between rather than within sites and what role the environment may play, particularly climate and soil type, hasn't really been investigated. I don't think any of these variations deserves a form to be named though.
