Greg Allan
Can anybody tell me how their Drosophyllum behaves in winter? This is my first winter with this plant. Mine still looks vigorous, but is sending up slightly shorter leaves than in the summer and does not look as sticky as it did in the summer, and the leaves no longer smell of honey. It is, however, still growing fairly fast. Is this normal?
vic brown
Yes it's normal for them to grow in winter, they do in habitat. Put in in the sunniest place you can and keep frost free and it will grow all winter. Vic
Greg Allan
Thanks, Vic. A South facing window is the suniest I've got, so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed until the days get longer again!
TheCarnifreak
Drosophyllum can have frost. This year it has frozen 5 degrees C in my greenhouse, and it's still growing...
Iwein
Mine is just above freezing point. Growth is good and leaves are still covered with dew. I also remarked that the strong sweet smell is absent. So i guess your plant is doing fine.
Greg Allan
Thanks. Mine is now doing very well in the cold sunny weather we've been getting. It has been exposed to cold temperatures but no frost and is looking very sticky. As the shortest day has now passed & the new leaves that are unfurling still have red glands, I think the light levels should be sufficient to maintain the plant throughout the winter on my windowill.
