Fuggle
Hi, I am about to re-pot my Sarracenia, as it has long outgrown its original pot and needs a better soil mix. I have purchased some long-fibre sphagnum moss live, a bag of perlite and a bag of Sarracenia compost. My question is this; what ratio do I mix the compost and perlite and how do I go about adding the moss? I am told that the moss goes on the bottom of the pot, with the compost and perlite mix on top of the moss. Is this correct?
Tropfrog
What is in the sarracenia mix? We don't have that product here. But I would expect a species specific soil mix to be ment to be used without mixing more stuff in it.

Tropfrog
Looks like peat, sphagnum and perlite to me. That should be all you need. Adding more perlite or more sphagnum could be done. But only if you have a good reason.
Tropfrog
Hmm, sorry I missed the live part. If you want to grow live sphagnum in your pot, that goes on top. Putting it in the bottom will just kill it.
