Strange growth from a phalaenopsis flower spike

In my experience it seems like keikis is forming on stressed plants only. My own plants have never made any one of them but I have seen a lot of them on friends plants. I always ask if I can take them so I have been trying to rescue a few. It seems like they need to grow their first roots before they can be successfully removed. I have my first flowering keiki right now. It took three years from remowing from the parent.
