Hi. Anyone who understands about soil? I have three plants outside (2 are almost dead). They all have the same soil and I water them from the bottom in a saucer. The soil of the first  has developed a browny powdery layer, the second has a green sticky stuff and the third is becoming green. Any idea what is happening?

Thank you.

It is Irish peat. I have used it for all my carnivorous plants and they are doing well. Their soil  has not developed  green slime and no brown sticky surface.
