My Collection

Recommended Posts

I thought I would share my collection of plants :) I have been able to get these to grow for a couple of years since I started really ramping up the number of plants I have, but I am no expert so if I am doing anything wrong I won't be offended if you want to say.

Here's how it started when I was given a greenhouse:

And here are my plants now, along with an indoor bog garden I have:

I recently found out an invasive form of water fern azolla filiculoides had been growing in my water trays before, I had left it as it prevented algae but on finding out how it is so invasive, I removed it, leaving my duckweed, and adding water lettuce and sphagnum moss, which so far seems to be doing well although it hasn't been there long, seems to not mind the sun, I had another variety of sphagnum that would have burned by now, so far so good.

My new Oreophila seems to be doing well :)

Small Schnell's Ghost division seems to be doing OK.

Lastly I was given a mini greenhouse where I am keeping some hybrids and a Schnell's Ghost division.

A few new plants arrived today from Hewitt-Cooper :)

IMG_2893.thumb.JPG.a21f6542b329ef945f935494397f9102.JPG

Helmut's Delight- I have read that this was found by chance in an Australian supermarket back in the 70s or 80s when things like that happened, and the plant itself is from a population extinct in the wild. It is a really pretty leuco in my opinion :)

IMG_2888.thumb.JPG.bd39762c8314265094c1b61303d60e75.JPG

My first Sarracenia Psittacina, really nice plant :)

IMG_2889.thumb.JPG.2a49548fccde2ae891f01b603839991d.JPG

My first Sarracenia Minor, I love the white spotting on these

IMG_2902.thumb.JPG.1358159d15f34ddb3a18f7c648ea451e.JPG

Purple and White Giant- I know very little about this plant other than it is from Florida. Would love to know more. IMG_2897.thumb.JPG.c099939573b57e232988aa8fe4db5a18.JPG

Really nice Green and White leuco from Ben's Bog Alabama. Looks almost similar to Purple and White Giant in my opinion.

Following Greg's comment I had a fresh look at the tray bog and a think about the height of the soil in there, and decided it would be wise to raise up the lower plants, I aimed to have the soil level at roughly 4 inches from the bottom of the tray at least to give the taller plants roots more room. I am sure this was the right thing to do and I will continue to make adjustments if required.

This is a sundew I noticed at the base of my Purpurea

And a rather cute new division of a Leucophylla

IMG_2924.thumb.JPG.7ba2f33d64b9eadf32ce72654857cee5.JPG

I am not completely sure what this Leuco is exactly, I have had it for quite a while before I really knew about named location plants, I will see if I can find out from old email orders what it is. It is slow-growing but I really like it.

We did quite a bit of tidying in the small greenhouse today, I have some more room for plants now :tu:

IMG_2916.thumb.JPG.b94bf299574601fe33ce5002c73b358c.JPG

This Schnell's Ghost was from the smallest piece of rhizome with no roots last year that I didn't think would survive but potted in case, I am surprised how well this has done

IMG_2917.thumb.JPG.1af60ca93fc9ec958250956eae23d0dc.JPG

This hybrid was divided into several plants this year and put in a bigger pot which it has almost filled, it is a really vigorous plant and I think looks even better as it gets taller.

My wife and I had a great time today meeting dennisB, and seeing his impressive collection of plants. We even got to take some home, as seen below:

I have some really nice new plants and did a rearrangement in the greenhouse to maximise space and tidy it up

This is a Purpurea from Lidl, a surprisingly nice plant

I was so happy to see this shoot earlier today, since I stuck what was effectively a piece of leaf with no root and very little rhizome into the ground on this Schnell's Ghost :) Can't kill what's already dead I suppose?

Hi all, here are some of my plants (a few of them I got at the end of last season) and my thoughts on them.

MRRF1361

SL27 Hurricane Creek White (MK L58B)

This is a really vigorous leuco, I got this division from Mike King last Autumn. It is a gorgeous plant, and I can't wait to see how the Autumn traps look :)

LERG2102

SL13 Red form, Deer Park, AL

This is currently the tallest plant in my collection. In terms of growth, it has been reliable and constantly creates massive pitchers. I got this one from Nigel Hewitt-Cooper, in my opinion a very underrated leuco.

WMRJ8047

SF04 Cutthroat

I had no idea that Flavas even got this big before owning this plant. It is easy to divide and very vigorous. Not to mention it must be my favourite flava in terms of looks.

CQBS6314

SL10 Snow White: Bay County, FL

I have not owned this alba leuco long enough to have an opinion on its vigor, but it is certainly a beauty.

IMG_0181

DM04 Slacks Giant

This is currently my favourite venus fly trap, another great Mike King plant. It is fast growing, and the traps so far are enormous. Really pretty plant.

IMG_0179

SL18 Chronus (Titan)

I have heard really mixed things about this plant. I can only comment from my own experience, but personally I love the look of this trap, and it has divided well (was divided last year). One of the tallest in my collection but not the tallest, but then not the most mature. Overall, I am happy to have this one in my collection.

I hope you enjoyed these, and I will be posting more in the future :)
