jez_z3
Hi all... A mate of mine gave me some venus flytrap seeds which started me buying more seeds online from China for more carnivorous plant seeds.. When I received the seeds from China they at 1st looked about right so planted them, ( they weee supposed to be a mix of vfts and sundews) but after about 5 min later of watering them I noticed the seeds have an appearance of miniature frogspawn or as if the seeds are covered in a gel coat. (Top pic ) Also my mates vft seeds were planted a few weeks back but look nothing like vfts.Could the seedlings be sarracenia perhaps? (Bottoman pic ) top pic are seeds from China but don't think they're vft o

jez_z3
A billion to one shot I suppose but any one wish to comet on what they might be?
David Ahrens
VFT seed is very distinctive, the seeds are small, black and shiney. They are also pear shaped. The seedlings just don't look like Sarracenia at all.
Zerbirus
Vft are black teardrops, sarracenia are brown teardrops, both similar to citrus seed shapes Never never never buy seeds from china, 99% of the time theyre not what are listed or are dead seeds. The supposed vft look similar to shotgun fungi, i googled it after thinking they look like fungi edit: just started harvesting a few pods, about 1mm long, shiny, what did you receive? Thanks for replying. Well the seeds I got from China ebay look very similar to your picture though probably not identical. They got that gel appearance after I watered them, within minutes... Zerbirus
The issue is paypal wont refund you the money as by their terms of paypal protection sown seeds count as installed products, so its easy for these chinese sellers to get away with it
jez_z3
Where's the best place to get cp seeds as ebay seem full of the dodgy seeds? Ps if any one wants to swap some vft seeds or cutting and or any sundew/ sarrancenia seeds then I've got a nepenthes cutting I can give as the swap ? Edited July 30, 2018 by jez_z3
Abi
The seeds in pic no.1 are either basil or chia seeds (most likely basil because of seed colour and size) both swell almost instantly after water is added. Such a shame paypal won't refund it. Maybe you can leave a review to warn off other people.

Zerbirus
Oh yes basil or chia as abi said. Triffid nurseries is very on and off with seeds, ive talked to 2 people who have brought seeds from them and they have the either great or dont germinate issues, same as me. Nothing against andy of course, good customer service. I see triffid nurseries dont list the harvest dates for vft seeds which is odd, might be old stock. Vft take a long time to grow to adulthood so youre probably better off bidding on ones you want on ebay then next june, pollinate them yourself
Netjer
I've not bought seeds from Triffid before but have bought several plants from Andy and I've always found him to be particularly helpful and friendly. I'm sure if you were to contact him he'd be happy to help. Also, if you do go down the route of buying a VFT and then pollinating it I'll recommend Andy for this as well - he's got the best selection of VFTs I've seen in the UK and plants are always healthy and a good size. Hello I had some Chinese vft seeds, turned out to be "Morning glory" very invasive, banned in USA. If you are interested I have a small amount of Sarra seeds open pollinated you can experiment with. PM me with your address and I can post.
Dunc
If you want typical vft seed I'll send you some for a sae! They'll be open pollinated so could be pollen from any of my 30 odd types but the mother plants are typs (these are the ones I don't notice setting seed in all my sarras). They will be freshly collected on the day I put in your envelope though.
Plantfreak
If it came from China... it’s FAKE. China has been sending random seeds to people
