Netjer Posted July 9, 2018 Report Share Posted July 9, 2018 Something which I've really noticed since getting into CPs is the rather large amount of negative reactions I get from other people. Whilst some of my friends and family really quite enjoy them I've had a lot of people saying that they don't like 'that sort of thing', that they're morbid, that I'm unnecessarily killing insects and that I need to start keeping other, 'easier', plants. The latter in particular really quite irks me as I actually find most CPs to be a lot easier to look after than other plants. I've had a handful of people that don't seem interested I admit but more often than not people take an interest and I get asked loads of questions. Guy Posted July 9, 2018 Report Share Posted July 9, 2018 Yeah, I've had this. Some people think it's really weird keeping plants which use insects as part of their 'diet'. They seem to think it reveals a sadistic streak in my nature. I used to keep snakes, loads of them. The reaction was the same. Funny old world. I have no time for house flies or wasps but I must admit I get a little saddened when I see some of the other victims.... Last year every pitcher on my sarras was crammed with hover fly corpses and I find those little acrobatic insects fascinating ..... "The plants have to eat though" I tell myself..... Some people like watching 22 silly b...ers chasing after a round lump of plastic on a nice field for 90 mins trying to get it between 2 sticks. In my country CP are something uncommon - I noticed that they just started being sold in shops. For my friends and family those plants are also new, but they have never said that they are insects killers etc. They support me and help as much as they can. Family couldnt care less apart from my mum wishing there were less flies indoors and impressed with the amount the sarracenias catch.
