Yossu
OK, so I shouldn't really get excited about this, but my D. Regia has flowered for the first time. Whilst I quite like Drosera flowers, they are generally not that exciting, so I tend to snip the flower stalks off, cut them into 1" lengths and propagate new plants from them. However, when my D. Regia sent up a flower stalk, the buds looked different from the others, so I decided to leave them. I'm glad I did, as the one flower that has opened so far is a beauty... As I said, probably nothing to get excited about for the old hands, but got me all happy

Yossu
The odd thing is that it never has more than about five leaves. As new ones grow, the old ones turn black and die. Is this normal?
Dunc
Nice - always worth letting the regia flower - one of my fav CP flowers!

nicmanism
Hi Yossu Wow, I've never had a regia flower and I've been growing them for around 10 years. Do you grow them inside or out? I'm growing mine inside and am wondering whether they need more of a seasonal temperature change. You also mention that your plants never grow more than five leaves. Have you seen the photos posted (I think by Christian???) of the D regia in the wild? The plants shown in these photos only have two live leaves each. This makes me wonder whether my growing conditions are quite different from those in the natural habitat of D regia. I think I'll try growing some of my plants outside but sheltering them from the worst of the UK winter. Mark
nicmanism
The link to Christian's posting of D regia in the wild are here: But unfortunately the links to the actual photos are broken. Christian? Any chance you could repost your wonderful photos again? Mark

From what I understand, they need the cold winter for dormancy.
