Yossu
My mother bought me a S. Barba that she saw in a garden centre (aren't mothers great?). It's been sitting under some growlights in our spare room, as it was too nice to put out into the greenhouse. I know, silly me, but we know that! Anyway, it's just gone into the greenhouse for the winter. I was reading The Savage Garden, and he mentions that you can split Sarras either at the beginning of the winter, or the beginning of spring. Given how much this has grown since I got it, I was wondering about splitting it. Anyone able to advise if it's a good idea to split it at all (i have no idea what's going on underneath, and don't want to disturb it unless I'm sure it's worth splitting) and if so, when would be the best time to do it. Thanks
Chappers
If you want to split it you will need to let it go dormant so it needs to go in the greenhouse. I'd leave it now until spring.
Alexis
It's a tissue cultured plant so you'll probably find there isn't much rhizome or roots but loads of growth. If you divide it you'll probably end up with lots of tiny divisions with one or no roots. I'd just bump it up to a bigger pot (you can do that now) and not disturb it. It will be easier to deal with once its growth habit stabilises in a couple of years.
Picavorus
I tried splitting a couple of the standard garden centre plants last year. However, they didn't have much rhizome or root, and I subsequently lost some, unlike those that I'd sourced from carnivorous people or nurseries. I'd just re-pot into a larger pot and let it develop more rhizome and root.
Yossu
Thanks to all of you. It's already in the greenhouse, so I'll probably just repot it and leave it at that. I like the plant, and don't want to risk losing it.

Scuipici
Got one also and was thinking exactly the same. My pot seems full with seedlings so I'll see in the spring if that is so, if not I'll just repot it.
