Spider mite treatment

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So I'm pretty positive now I have spider mites as I have little red dots on my dionaea and the traps are beginning to look as if they are drying? like some traps are beginning to turn colour and have a weird dried bumpy look to them. I have also seen one of the little red mites moving so they are definately there.

Whats the best method to deal with the spider mites?, if its miticide what one should I buy in the UK - I need it ASAP,

Have you got a photo of the plant damage? RSM are usually a yellowish colour with 2 little black dots. Is there any webbing?

If it is RSM, it can be pretty tough to get rid of.

Option 1 is SB Plant Invigorator. It's not a miticide, I think it's an emulsion of oils and fatty acids which causes problems for the mites. Because it's not a miticide they do not develop any resistance but you have to keep up the treatment. Search the forums for further info, some members have used it with very good results.

Option 2 is a proper miticide. Floramite can be obtained in very small doses on eBay, it's very expensive but should work as it's likely that the RSM will not be resistant to it as they are with most pesticides. Use it correctly though or like the Borg, the buggers will adapt!

One image shows a picture of a trap where you may or may not be able to make out the dots all along the centre of the trap, the other two pictures show my smallest VFT which isn't looking too well especially a couple of traps you can see in the photo where there seems to be these weird brown areas developing on the traps, also the edges of the leaves aren't looking too well.

Im not entirely convinced at this stage your problem is RSM although something is obviously wrong. The plants look quite dry, are they standing permanently in a small amount of water? I'd probably try the SB plant invigorator at this point, it can't hurt and is the cheaper of the two options. It will also help if another pest is to blame.

the second picture certainly looks as it is lacking water. If water is not problem knock plant out and check roots could be vine weevil

Heres some hopefully better images of the black things I have on them which to me look like tiny beetles, as you can see on one of the images 3 or 4 are on the inside of a trap which is quite common.
