olivier marthaler
Hi all, just this short message: unbelievable (at least for me): in 11 days (yes: eleven!) the first Darlings seeds I got from a friend started germinating. Had spent 6 weeks in stratification (5°C) and then brought under artificial light, 95% humidity rate, and temps around 20°C at night and 25°C daytime... and already some have started to sprout!!! sorry no pics yet, but has anybody had such fast germination yet? thanks for convincing I'm not having hallucinations ;-))) regards from cold Switzerland mountains, OL
picol
Hi Olivier, some grower in Italy are having the same experience: some days of cold stratification in the fridge, then under controlled temps and light, and surprising seeds are sprouting. olivier marthaler
... considering the slow development of Darlings at a later stage, till they become adults... it is just amazing, congratulations to those Italian colleagues, and good patience, tanti auguri, OL
picol
Unfortunately I don't belong to those lucky growers, just because I don't own a terrarium. Several years ago, in an italian forum, there was a thread about various ways of stratification, and one of the admin stated that (according to his experience) Darlingtonia doesn't really need of freezing temperature for long period, and he had result (but not very high rate of germination) just spreading seed in april, without stratification. snowwy
Congrats! It took my darls one week to germinate after 4-week stratification treatment in fridge http://kannukasviblogi.blogspot.fi/2014/12/darlingtonia-from-seed-part-3-start-of.html
