A  preordained decline of the plant to a temperate type dormancy? No

The plant will continue to grow in favourable conditions but if the temperature drops too far the top growth will be cut back to the level of the medium. If it drops even further in a hard winter ( say to -18C / 0F for example) then the roots may well die unless they are given protection.

After an average UK winter the chances are that the plant will recover from the roots In a mild winter the top growth will remain even if it gets a little tatty.
