Is this an orchid? If not, what is it?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Someone just gave me a cutting of a plant, and said it was a Tiger Orchid. I had a quick look around to check, partly to see how to plant and care for it, and I can't find any pictures that look like what I've got.

Anyone know if this is a Tiger Orchid or not? If not, any idea what it might be...

Thanks

Thanks very much to both of you. That's exactly the plant. Looks easy to grow too, which is nice!

Most likely ludisia discolor, its the most common one in uk cultivation. There are a lot of very similar jewel orchids though so could be theoretically something else, flowers would prove it one way or the other.

I used to have one, the flowers are fairly ordinary but they're mainly grown for their leaves. They like it quite wet. Mine met an untimely end when feral pigs got into my garden, they were one of the many casualties.

Yeah, I was rather struck on the leaves.

I'm going to pot it up and see how it grows. Thanks again to everyone for the help.
