SIRKRA
Hi all, early April my pinguicula aphrodite started to flower while she was still on the "white side", taken a lot of time to form, at some time I noticed that progression stopped, flower stayed in a half state between open and closed and on the stem there are two brown spots, no overwatering or insects for sure, my moranensis flowered no problem right of her and in half time compared, do anyone know something more of this?? Thanks! 27 April: http://imageshack.com/a/img901/6969/CyujDh.jpg now: http://imageshack.com/a/img661/4060/4vq2kd.jpg P. moranensis: http://imageshack.com/a/img540/9982/I8BLm2.jpg Edited May 13, 2015 by SIRKRA
Dave Evans
It is a lame hybrid with a flower that tends to not open correctly. People should make more effort before naming kind-a-lame clones as cultivars. Basically, it is a poor selection.
FredG
Now I'm puzzled, for a plant that "tends not to open it's flower correctly" there's a lot of photos of fully open flowers online. Does anyone else have a comment?
Christian Voss
Hi Fred, yes, you are right. If you give enough light to this plant, there's no problem with the flowers. In my opinion the plant shown above has a very big lack of light. That's how it should look like: It's what I tell all the times: Pinguicula need as much light as other carnivorous plants (ok, not as much as neps or helis). Less light leads to green salad and weak plants. By the way, the P. 'Aphrodite' does not need a dry periode. You can grow it damp all year round. SIRKRA
No problems with lights on my side but all my plants are under the forced low/dormant period, picture was taken with bad quality and bad white balance, must say the plant is still small not like those in photos, now is only 4 cm wide and coming back, i think that: 1) she developed the flower too early 2) like Dave said may be a crap weak clone that to me is the most probably one
Tommyr
My 'Aphrodite' recently flowered. It's in a west window.
