mdeford09
here is an updated pic of what the bigger of the pots looks like. It has been through one of the hottest summers my part of Texas has ever seen and still looks this good. Hud357
Very nice plants. Out of idle interest ... How do you get on water wise in New Mexico? Clearly the plants love the sunshine but isn't NM basically Desert? Edited September 3, 2015 by Hud357
mdeford09
So, the time of SD Kronos being released is nearly upon us. Last night I uprooted my mother pots to send plants to other business owners and I gotta say, holy freaking cow. Biggest plants i have ever had in my hands. I uprooted the big pot I got from Steve on 07/05/15 and all 3 pots were overflowing again by last night. So if you intend on buying an SD Kronos, be prepared for a plant that needs a ton of room cuz baby gets big fast! haha ;) Biggest trap was just under 4.5cm so not too big but, far from small. The rhizomes/corms were over 10cm wide and plump as can be and the biggest plants were over 8" wide. For me, this plant sets the bar for term giant. All year long its bigger than anything else in my collection. It has broke 5cm for me but the trap was blackened and crumbly when trying to measure and take a pic. But, enough from me. This plant is going to speak for itself!
FlytrapRanch
I now have three mother pots (larger, deeper pots that usually contain more than one plant) of SD Kronos, and I plan to begin to offer, in several months, a few single plants of SD Kronos to various growers in the United States that I know are experienced, conscientious and knowledgeable about Venus Flytraps, so that this clone can begin to have wider distribution. However, I don't do tissue culture, so my own distribution of SD Kronos will be limited to the U.S. Mike Deford (mdeford09 here at CPUKforum) does tissue culture plants and has sucessfully tissue cultured several jars of SD Kronos so far. He will also be distributing and selling SD Kronos. Hopefully, some SD Kronos will be available in the EU and UK sometime in 2016. However, please inquire about the sources of any "SD Kronos" being sold or traded, because as many of us know from past experience, various Venus Flytrap clones have been sold and traded that were not clones of the original plant of the same name (including Vigorous, Low Giant, and Fused Tooth, to name a few). Lepto
So, does the plant get red in full sunlight or does it stay as green as it is in the pictures? I mena its big and deserves to be called giant, because it is, and many other giants are not, but If it stays this green its still not pretty in my opinion... mdeford09
yes, the plant gets red. I will take a picture of some of the red traps it is currently showing off. :)All of those pictures were of summertime growth. Most plants do not put out a lot of color during the summer months in my area. I think it is a combination of extreme heat and lots of bugs to munch on. But, now that it is a fall all of my plants are starting to put on some beautiful coloration. So far, SD Kronos actually has a bit of a unique red coloration. It seems to color the cilia faster than the rest of the trap. So you get bright red cilia with a trap that looks to be misted in pink/red... It kind of looks gruesome, haha. mdeford09
I actually totally forgot to come back and post some colorful photos of SD Kronos. Here is one that captured a fly during dormancy a few weeks ago.

FlytrapRanch
SD Kronos and other Venus Flytraps emerging from dormancy, March 28, 2016. These mature Venus Flytraps were grown side-by-side in identical conditions throughout dormancy. Front: SD Kronos; Back: MAD Snappy at left (a nice Venus Flytrap bred by friend Mike Deford in Texas), Jaws (Leo Song's original Jaws, not any of the several more recent impostors). :) Closeup-- Edited March 28, 2016 by FlytrapRanch

FlytrapRanch
--- Distribution of SD Kronos to Date, October 10, 2016 As the original breeder and grower of the SD Kronos Venus Flytrap (Stephen Doonan, Flytrap Ranch, New Mexico, US), I still have the original parent plant and several of its largest (now mature) divisions, as well as several smaller, newer, younger divisions. The only plants of SD Kronos distributed as of now, that I am aware of, is as follows-- Several divisions to my friend in Texas, US, Mike DeFord (mdeford09 here at CPUKforum). Those plants have grown well, have produced some natural divisions, and Mike has tissue-cultured some of SD Kronos. One or two older plants and some young SD Kronos from Mike DeFord to Matt Miller in Oregon, US (FlytrapStore.com) A healthy young division sent to an experienced private grower in Hawaii, US Several young divisions recently sent to a CP grower friend in North Carolina, US An SD Kronos listed at Ebay (U.S., as of October 10, 2016) The above list represents the full extent of the distribution so far of the SD Kronos Venus Flytrap that I am aware of. --- Attached: Photo of young SD Kronos division.
