Stapelia Hirsuta

Recommended Posts

The latest addition to my Cacti/Succulent collection, Stapelia Hirsuta, arrived today.

It was bare rooted and I potted it up into a 4" terracotta pot, in a mix of cacti compost/canna coco plus and crushed granite.

Looking forward to seeing it in bloom next season.

Hi corky,

I got it from this seller on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141437590104?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

He still has a few left if you're looking for one.

Hi Ian, I've had one, of a similar size to yours, for a couple of years and although I haven't managed to kill it yet it also hasn't flowered for me either, buds when developed have so far aborted before opening.  It would be nice to see yours (and mine) flowering next year.

Seem to have a problem.

One tip has started yellowing and it seems to be creeping down the stalk. Not sure if I should remove it.

Any thoughts guys?

I'd agree with Muel, wait and see. It doesn't look like rot which in my (limited) experience generally starts at the base and is darker in colour. Whenever I've had tips dying off like this I assumed it was due to too much direct sunlight although I guess this is unlikely if you only just got it.

Looks like you're both right.

It seems to have stopped spreading and is now just drying up on the tip.

I'll wait and see.

Cheers for the input.

Ian.

Hi guys, thought I'd give an update on the plants progress.

The tip problem dried up and hasn't spread and the plant has started putting out some new growth and I seem to have a flower bud forming as well.

Not counting my chickens just yet, but Corky, it looks like I'm in the lead. Lol. :dance4:

Here's a couple of photos I just took this morning.
