Thanks for the update, It seems you found a propper light setup! Your plants are looking good.

Are you happy with the result?

You bet I am :)  The 3watt diodes are good for  6 to 10 inches plant to light distance. If the distance is longer, then i think a 5 to 7 to 10 watt will benefit depending on how far....

Hope every one find this little experiment beneficial, I had replaced my home bookshelf grow space from T5HO to 3watt leds setup the moment I saw result .

Sounds good.I think thr aquatic one will be better if they are both producing the same intensity. But even with the 2 same set up on my 2 tier rack. The plants color up differently . The bottom shelf seems to get redder. Sent from my SM-N9005

My conclusion: I think the light intensity is barely enough to grow plants nicely, therefore this is not a good setup. 5050 SMD LED is not ideal for CP.

I did wonder.

I've just ordered 3 x 18W COB's to replace my current 3 x 10W. The plants seem to be doing well but I want more red.

I am trying to use led to grow Venus flytrap.I use 30watts led with 0.6Watt 400nm violet led ,the trap is turning to red.

ps:I live in Taiwan so I have problem to write in English .

Please forgive my problem in English. Thanks

Now the inside of the trap is turn to red.

I grew some sage from seeds under two T5HO lamps and they were very leggy. I think the lamps need to be much nearer than people think to get a reasonable amount of light at the plants.

My 'Chinese' is is even worse. I wouldn't know where to start.

400nm is probably too 'blue' for long term health, you might consider moving to plain 'warm white' (roughly 1/3 blue and 2/3 red).

Could I just ask... why are you growing VFT inside in a tank when you live in Taiwan? A practically tropical environment.

Your main problem, with VFT, I suspect is that you will need to provide them with an 'artificial Winter'*. Probably in a fridge.

They should grow like 'weeds' all year round on Taiwan but they will need a rest.

For all looking at LED lighting - could I point you to ...

(as an example of the part - there are plenty of other vendors)

It, with a simple 'lap top' PSU, can drive pretty much any domestic LED array one might imagine. You will need some basic elecrical skills in order to set it up (CV/CC - mainly CC) but, once configured, mine (driving 55W) has been in opperation for a year now and doesn't even get warm.

I use 400nm a little.so the color still keep warm white with some pink.

I bought some special led from China .

It's full spectrum LED.

I use 10W warm white,1W 440nm,0.6W 400nm,and 20W full spectrum LED,so the color is warm white with a little pink.

I feel a little sad when you say Growing Venus flytrap in a tank.because I live in a apartment first floor.Someone stole my Venus flytrap and sundew in few years ago...

I use c.c. driver to build my led lighting.I bought this from China,it's inexpensive a 20W driver about cost me NTD160

But We can build c.c. driver by our self, use the LM317,to limit the current of the circuit, but input voltage must not over 40Volts.

About dormancy I will use refrigerator to help my flytrap into dormancy,it's normal in Taiwan

full spectrum

The full spectrum LED,I think it's useful in growing plant

it was more a comment about you being in the position of having to simulate Winter. Here in the North ... "Winter is comming".
