FredG
Araneus diadematus tend to make webs that span large spaces. At present I have one with the top thread covering 10ft ( 3.048m) and young Ariadne is rightly sitting eating her prey. Anyone got bigger? Muel
That is a whopper Fred. Theres one that covers the end of the greenhouse here. Not a massive one though.
CephFan
I found this spider down by the shed: The web was only between a couple of dwarf fruit trees about two feet apart. At the top of the garden there is about six feet between the wall and the greenhouse. I did come around the corner at about 06:00 the other day to find an A. diadematus had slung a web between the two and was glaring at me at face height! FredG
The Araneus diadematus this refers to has been renewing her web daily, we think birds have been damaging it and until today the top thread remained intact. I'm sorry to say that this morning the entire web had been destroyed. The good news is she has made an entirely new web with the top thread now measuring 14+ ft (4.27+m)

More so in that most orbweavers consume the web each night and re-spin a new one. Even spiders recycle :)

Little-Bacchus
I've not seen them doing it in the day but then my girlfriend makes me walk the front path before she leaves for work to make sure there are none in the way. Do you have any night flowering plants in your garden?
