flycatchers
Every so often I have a curious issue on my Dell xps8300 computer. It is running Windows 7 Home edition. What occurs is the computer boots up as normal and I get into windows. The icon tray shows I have internet access. But if I open any browser IE & firefox the browser opens but I just get a white display in the main window and the hour glass going round in the web address window. If I try outlook express or dreamweaver to access my online e-mails or files they fail to connect as well. I have tried closing down McAFee virus software and firewall but still cannot access the internet. No other programs are running as I have just freshly booted up. As this has happened a few times I now know I have to shutdown the computer. After you get the logging off message and onto the shutting down message the computer hangs. And I have to switch off at the mains. When I boot up again there is usually but not always a lenghty pause just after the welcome screen when the screen is black and the hard drive activity stops for a while. Them it continues and I get back into windows. Sometimes but not always the desktop takes ages to fully load and if I try to run anything it takes ages to open a program. However once it has settled down I can now fully access the internet and everything else! This problem so far is random and has occured once in December 2013, once in January 2014 and again in April and now today. Nothing out of the ordinary occured the previous day and nothing was updated or changed prior to those occasions. Any ideas? On a Windows 7 forum the only suggestion was McAFee and I suppose that might be the issue. But have had that software installed since I got the computer in May 2011 and it has not caused any issues. But again I rarely install any new programs on my computer and any I have were running long before December 2013. cheers bill
Phil Green
Bill, could it just be that your internet was down for those moments. Or just that something failed to start up properly. I had the same issue this morning. I switched and but got nothing from email or internet. I switched it off and on again at the mains and everything was then fine.
