Best way to store seeds

What is the best way to store VFT seeds?

 

I will be buying a load of seeds this week and want to store them for a month or 2 until i come back from holidays

 

Would an airtight container in the fridge be ok?

In an envelope in the fridge.  I use those little zip lock plastic bags that you can buy on ebay by the zillion for a few pence.

Venus fly trap seeds store very well in a fridge.  Just keep them in a container where they'll stay dry and germination rate can be preserved at a high level for quite some time.

I used to do that Lucien but then got fed up making loads of little envelopes whenever I was selling seeds. That's when I bought the little Ziploc ones from eBay.

Because Dionaea is accustomed to germinating the same season, shortly after falling from the plant, and because the seed is so tiny and its brittle, shiny black coat so thin, the seed tends to dry out rather quickly. So it can help to put them in a small plastic bag with most of the air removed (to prevent too much evaporation of the water in the seeds into the surrounding air) and store them in the refrigerator until needed.

 

Older Dionaea seeds often float in water because they have dried too much, and their germination rate is therefore reduced, while fresh seed usually sinks to the bottom of a container of water when stirred. But older Dionaea seed can be reconditioned somewhat and their germination rate improved by soaking in pure water for 2-3 days, which usually causes most of the seeds to absorb water and sink, before sowing.
