Ok so i sowed some seeds about 4 weeks ago but no sign of them germinating yet....they are a year old so im not sure if they will get to the germinating stage...

I am going to order some fresh seeds from another supplier so my question is should i sow the new seeds in the same pot as the current ones or will it be best to start in a new pot with fresh compost?

Thanks

It can help the germination rate of older seed to soak them in pure water for 2 or 3 days. Although some of the seed may be too dried to germinate, soaking can help to rehydrate and refresh seeds that have not already dried and died completely.

I can't answer the question about the medium to sow the seeds in, not knowing what your current medium is composed of or your environmental conditions.

I sowed fresh seeds last year as soon as I harvested them.  I had a fair few come up over the month or so after.  I left the pot with my other plants over winter and in the spring had a vast number of seeds come up and join the little plants.

What I mean is that even fresh seeds can take a while to germinate.  So if you get new seeds put them in another pot but keep the old one moist and in good growing condition and you may get some results

I found some two year old seeds in March and sowed them, it took about a month before the first one sprouted so I thought maybe it was a bit of a waste of time but when I looked this morning there are loads still just starting to grow so it's worth giving them up to a year before you write them off.
