Dave Evans
This is completely normal for N. gymnamphora. You're plant seems really small... Maybe up pot it? I've seen mature plants with leaves over 68 cm long.... Actually, the N. g. I'm familiar with doesn't really look like this. The rosette pitchers were clearly ovoid in shape and rather large, while the upper pitcher were only slightly larger than those of N. gracilis, yet the leaves were huge. cpl
dave: the lowers of this plant were wider and longer- twice longer than these uppers! plant receives quite strong light - maybe due to this factor leaves are far more shorter ?? the pot is quite big. Dave Evans
Yeah, I suspect it is being bonsia'ed by the over all conditions. It looks really happy though, and I wouldn't change anything :)
cpl
i have plant in thesame age as plants above but standing in shadier spot- tha plant is maybe 35 cm high but the leaves are almost as long as leaves of these and the pitchers are tiny comparing to the leaf size but well coloured though. beside its bonsaied i think the plants are happpy- rapid leaf and pitcher production improves that well imho :) Edited August 29, 2013 by cpl
Phil Green
cpl - I suspect those basal pitchers do have leaves, just burried under all that moss. Mine also produces these much smaller pitchers from 'basal' shoots, than the original lowers were (which were huge). Dave - you have seen these before (2 years ago). This has reminded me that I didn't update the thread when one of mine flowered, so I've now done so. http://pitcherplants.proboards.com/thread/10180/gymnamphora-update-flowers
cpl
yes they do have leaves but only 2-3 mm wide and totally upright. uppers are more than 2x smaller than lowers and i see that your sizes are/were exactrly the same as in my case
