Pete Bog
Hi I bought this Stylidium in full flower on a whim a few weeks ago. I've never grown these before and don't know a great deal about them. It has now finished flowering but developed a small plantlet on one of the flower stalks - is this normal? I've looked for similar photo's but haven't found any. Will it root and continue to grow if I remove it? thanks Bob
FredG
Neither of my pots have done this.... I'm jealous
Rodrigo
Bob, the name of this "anomaly" is Apomixis. It is relatively common among some types of CPs, so there's no need to worry since you are a lucky person because bought a plant and toast came another. Separate this clone and pack it in a pot in another pot so that it can continue its development. Until next and success in the cultivation of this plant. kisscool_38
That's not apomixis but false vivipary.
Rodrigo
That's not apomixis but false vivipary. What do you mean Aymeric? Please explain it better? Best regards, Rodrigo
kisscool_38
During the apomictic process, the new plant is created by a cell of the ovule without pollination. Here the plant is created by a meristem.

Maiden
After a while, all the brownish dead part is gone. You can see the new little plantlets growing on some flowers stalks. Pretty cool. stylidium caespitosum par dals009, sur Flickr stylidium caespitosum par dals009, sur Flickr stylidium caespitosum par dals009, sur Flickr stylidium caespitosum par dals009, sur Flickr
Adelae
The flowers are identical to my S.velleiodes, but in saying that we have 8 stylidium in the area, that I have found (100km radious), and they all share very similiar flowers, for some the plants are even the same, just different sizes, another case is an unknown stylidium (I can't ID it)) here that has the same leaves as S.velleiodes but are half the size and have bright pink flowers, it also grows as an aquatic like U.Australis, whereas most other stylidium here live in clay soils that dry up for the winter months, then another (tenerum) grows as an epiphyte on mossy trees or as a lithophyte on moss rocks, but their flowers are dismal. Most grow with Byblis.L, Drosera indica/burmanni/spathulata/lunata/peltata and an array of utrics.
Pete Bog
I put my plant in a spare room to overwinter and stupidly forgot to keep an eye on it. Result is the compost is now bone dry and the plant leaves have shrivelled and dried. Just wondering if it is possible to recover, will the roots recover if I start watering? I seem to have nothing to loose at this point in time. thanks Bob
Maiden
I never experience this, but maybe the plant can restart from the roots. Give a try and keep us posted !
Maiden
Oh, by the way the little plants on the flower stalks just thrive ! They are potted since a while right now, and they are 5cm wide.
