prized
Hi all, it is now 4 years that I'm growing both sarracenia and dionaea from seed, and I was able to obtain some interesting stuff. I'm now here to discuss with you if they are worth a name or not. 1- First is a fused tooth x dentate, it makes short and fused teeth all over the year 2- this one is still under observation, I selected it when it was a small seedling, with cup traps..later, in its second year it made almost typical trap with tiny teeth. This is its third year and it also flowered. It closes traps very fast due to the curved traps, it sometimes make fused petiole and has wonderful teeth. I'm actually calling it "Sonic" for the hedgehog like appearence, and its closing speed. Teeth are extremely different between seasons. first year second year third year 3- this is a washed trap dionaea, I think the name "Vitiligo" would be more suitable for this one, but it is already taken first year second year (I will take better picture soon)
prized
4- this is my very first selection, it is still under observation. It makes both white and red spotted traps and it is very vigorous. I was thinking to name it Dm Italia (for the triple colour on the traps), only after having verified it is stable. Actually the mother plant is just white and green while cuttings are green-white-red.. first year second year third year
petesredtraps
All nice and interesting Yuri.......well done. If you told me I could pick one to have, I would go with "Sonic" .

prized
Do you think they are worth a name? I think that you can name a plant only when you can find it between many other unlabelled clones.. I think that this is the case, don't you? What do you think? Hi Yuri, great to see your home grown VFT'S, now get to the good stuff, the sarracenia' Ada, I will open another topic with them, but with Sarracenia it is a bit different.. Every seedling is different from the others and it really depends on personal taste... Anyway, this year I selected about 20 seedlings, and still have to select half of the crosses I've sown.. :) Actually the best one is a plant that I bought 3 years ago, when it was only a 1 year old seedling -> THIS :)
Trev
Well done, Yuri. It's a long slow process cross breading Dionaea and selecting something interesting enough to get peoples attention these days.

ada
Yuri, sorry i missed your answer earlier. You have done most of the hard work breeding and growing the plants from seed.If they are stable and grow the same in other peoples collections and conditions why not name them? Many vft's have been named and you always read that some growers can't tell the difference from one another in their conditions,so go for it i say. ada

Mathias Maier
Hi Yuri, good Job! No 1 and No 4 looks very interesting! For me, the other 2 are to `normal´... Best regards Matze
19Silverman93
Very nice Yuri! how about the name "spot" for no. 4, as it seems to have spots of colour all over the traps?
prized
Very nice Yuri! how about the name "spot" for no. 4, as it seems to have spots of colour all over the traps? There is the well known "Spotty" already.. It would be too similar, but thanks the same, I'm looking for names.. @Mathias: why do you consider a "washed trap" dionaea too "normal"? eheh @Thomas: we still have to make business since EEE in Bonn ;) You have pm
Mathias Maier
Hi Yuri, i have also a lot of them at my seedlings, but i don´t give an eye to them. I sell them as normal plants... For me, there is no significant difference to other clones! Best regards Matze
