ada
Natale, Sorry to the mods for answering my own post but i have some interesting news to report.I have just had an email from the guy who sold me flava ''goldie'' to inform me that paul gardener of pj plants approached him two weeks ago to see if he had any examples of goldie available because he himself did not have the plant!! Interesting stuff! Gary This is in the same topic but later on ada
FredG
So these plants are not 'Goldie' they're 'Goldie'
prized
Then, where and when S.f. Goldie originated?
SoLongFairWell
Has anyone ever spoken to Paul about this because I read that particular post the other day and was rather perplexed and was wondering how could a plant be coming from Paul when Paul didn't have
mattynatureboy44
If you google S Flava Goldie images you get a few plants looking like the ones posted earlier in this thread, and upon clicking on the images you find some are from some well known experienced growers and don't look anything like the ones I have seen in pictures on here or in person at Mike Kings open day. Could it be that maybe someone is distributing fake Goldie's all over the place to make some money or the plant itself and it's characteristics are unstable or there has been a big mistake by someone distributing the wrong plant accidentally. Seen a lot of Goldie's going for silly money on ebay recently I personally wouldn't want to pay that much money to end up with a plant like that. ada
As far as i know Goldie came from the friend of a well known grower that sold goldie on e-bay.Gary walls who bought shall we say the first e-bay goldie from Andy Bullock(SORRY Andy).Andy got his goldie from a friend of his called Trevor margitts?,his surname is something like that, its a long time ago. I believe Trevor bought the original plant from Marston exotics many years previous to this because it looked unusual amongst all the others, but it was only a single plant. Perhaps this is why people say it came from P&J. True originally! but only one plant was bought and this was Trevors that went to Andy and became known as Goldie via e-bay. ada
Natale
I remember there was also another very long discussion that talked about the goldie ....
FredG
I believe this is what is expected with the Trevor-Andy Bullock-ebay-Gary Walls 'Goldie' . It can still go close to €200 on ebay. http://www.cpukforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=49610 http://www.johnjearrard.co.uk/plants/sarracenia/flava1/f119pjg/species.html http://storage.canalblog.com/89/23/153683/40319855.jpg
petesredtraps
What's the fuss about 'goldie' it just looks like a really weak and poorly coloured plant, like some leucophylla that are pale with thin pitchers. It's not like that at all. I have owned the plant, it gets vigorous, and the coloration, it simply glows.

I'm beginning to be quite disappointed about it!!

And just to confuse things further I can confirm I bought it from Paul Gardner on his open day last year. He also informed me that it has its origins at his nursery, either from some seedlings or bought in plants. He had about half a dozen plants last year which, I believe, are all sold now. I can also confirm that my plant has faded in the sun and started to burn as John Jearrard mentions. And, although not having it very long it does appear quite vigorous. I agree it's not a cultivar. Mark Long
I got mine from Paul in the spring of 2010 and looks the same as yours Martin. As far as I can recall I think he said that a grower had bought Goldie as a seedling from him (not sure if that would've been Marston or PJ Plants at that point) and Paul later acquired a division from whoever it was. That was a few years ago now, so I may not have remembered that exactly as it was. The first time I saw a goldie was at Paul's the year before that. It was growing outside in full sun and the young growth on it looked stunning. Mark

alexa
Yuri, have you considered that in Italy, the sun is much stronger than here in the UK, which will have a different effect on the plant? Honestly, don't be disappointed, I believe that you have the true S flava "Goldie", from the photo's you posted, I would be surprised if it wasn't. After all, there is no evidance that there even is a fake "Goldie" plant doing the 'rounds Alex.

Auto-quote I think it's a problem of sunlight, temperature and humidity or combination of them; also I have a goldie bought by Paul Gardner 3 or 4 years ago, is identical to that of Yuri
ada
Have you tried growing it in a less sunny area of your greenhouse or shading the plant? ada
prized
My second plant is growing in shade, behind all other bigger Sarracenia, and I even let it flower this year, but veins are the same, the only difference I see is that pitchers look more green. I think that the very bright colour could be given by the cold night in opposition to hot and humid day.. It's the only difference I can see, a part from the soil... Why don't you send me a division of your plant and I will grow it for you here and see if it produces the Goldie Characteristics then take some pics, I doubt it will but worth a go.
