petesredtraps
Here's my Dionaea "Největší pasti D" It has an almost white trap and pale patches on the other traps,I hope it continues with this trait. And here again my Green and not green Wizzard..........

SoLongFairWell
I love Green Wizard. Not usually a fan of 'green' VFT's but I do love that one.
Frank_
Whats the difference between Green Wizard and Coquillage? It's obviously not the coloration according to the picture above, and otherwise they seem similar. Edited July 15, 2013 by Frank_
mantrid
Whats the difference between Green Wizard and Coquillage? It's obviously not the coloration according to the picture above, and otherwise they seem similar. The problem is people are too eager to give fancy names to plants because they seem to display different characteristics without giving sufficient time to truely observe the plant under different conditions over a number of seasons. The grower then quickly cultivates their new plant and sells it on eager to make a few bucks. Then later a good summer shows the plant isnt actually a true green plant after all. So you now have another plant not worthy of its name to add to the growing list. Unfortunately there are enough suckers out there buying anything with a fancy name to keep this practice going.
SoLongFairWell
But isn't Green Wizard practically all green most of the time and Coquillage more flushed with colour? Or maybe it's something to do with the teeth... I do totally see Mander's point though. I've taken Green Wizard off my wishlist now as I already have Coquillage on it which I think I prefer. I only have 1-2 'green' plants in my wishlist as most of the time they turn out not so green so I've been pretty selective. I did however just buy an 'All Green Giant' from GazCeri just for the sake of adding another plant to make up the postage. It is currently the only 'green' plant in my collection and will likely stay that way until the wishlist is more fulfilled. Things take time though. And lots of money to build a collection but I'm trying to be quite selective as after all I only have so much space in the greenhouse before I have to buy another one. Also, I was looking through some of the Dionaea and Sarracenia cultivars registered recently with the ICPS and quite a few of them REALLY disappointed me. There's one last month, a Sarr, that had such narrow traps that it couldn't catch flies. It looked more like a leggy rejected plant from a bunch of seedlings. It's all very well and good giving a plant a name as it's different but they really ought to be worthy of cultivar status. Tuberousdrosera
Yes I agree the sarracenia is is awful and the dionaea on the same page bar one (the clam style one) are really dull

19Silverman93
that sarra should never have been allowed to live past infancy, let alone allowed cultivar status. the pitchers are more ala than trap!
SoLongFairWell
Viper was the only Dionaea worthy of mention, although I did like Damon Collingsworth's Ginormous in one of the previous issues.
gardenofeden
I can't tell the difference between Ginormous and B52, they look identical. The thing about cultivar descriptions is that anyone can publish any plant as a cultivar, there is no assessment of its worthiness. The only moderation is whether people like it and want to grow it, if they do then it will persist, if not it will fade away to obscurity. ada
That sarra isn't even worth discussing. BIN IT NOW. Grow something worth growing. ada
SoLongFairWell
I thought the Ginormous was a little bigger than B52.
SoLongFairWell
Apparently there's a little colour difference between Coquillage and Green Wizard. Judging by the photos in Tim Bailey's book Coquillage gets a bit darker. Would be interesting to hear from someone growing two mature plants practically side by side. Trev perhaps?? Blocky71
Thanks Stephen That sarra is indeed a puny little runt. I also like that viper trap though....
