jimfoxy
Is anybody else noticing an unusually high number of distorted Sarracenia flowers this year? My minors are just opening now and the styles are very withered. This has been the case with many others, too, particularly leucophylla. I am just wondering if this was due to the long Winter. Ian Salter
Some of our leucophylla are not even making trap leaves just odd phylodia. S. minor are not up to size and man plants are smaller than last year. With us too flowers are distorted in large numbers, not much we can do with cranky weather it just seems to be a long way off to get a fresh start next spring. SoLongFairWell
Yes particularly the leuco's.
Cedric-666
All the flowers of my leucos were distorted but some clones of flava also made distorted flowers. No distorted flowers with purpurea purpurea and oreophila. Very few distorted flowers with hybrids (normal situation). My minor is not yet in flower. Loakesy
I'd say a significant percentage of my flowers this year were distorted in some way, and not just my leucos...
SoLongFairWell
Does it affect seed quality or viability?
Loakesy
Probably, but only in a back-handed way. I've found that the inverted umbrella has distorted so much that there has been nowhere for the pollen to collect...
gardenofeden
I found some so distorted that the stigmas were absent. Edited July 11, 2013 by gardenofeden
FredG
It's annoying to have a flower stem 1.14m high and a distorted flower at the end.... they all look like Tarnok Edited July 12, 2013 by FredG
Cedric-666
According to my observations, distorted flowers almost never make seeds.
