Having second thoughts about this hobby!

Jeez, I've been wanting to get back into this hobby but the peat thing is doing my head in! Can't source it anywhere. Was gonna use fertile fibre but some say its no good for vft's as they don't like it. And as I only use r.o water it wouldn't be any good with fertile fibre as there wouldn't be enough acidity in the mix ,and the plants would suffer. Mixed reports on moorland gold! Some say only get the sterilised one and can't get that anywhere! May just stick to growing weeds in the garden at least they will grow in anything! :-(

I use Moorland Gold with all my plants, and yes you will get some grass seeds in it. Easy to remove however once it's grown an inch or so high.

I find that the independent garden centres are a little more obliging when it comes to supplying peat. Your profile doesn't say where you are from, so members won't be able to advise if there is a stockist near you.

The bags of Moorland Gold I have contain finer particles than traditional peat, so requiring more aggregate. Unsterilised contain weed seeds, but the weeds are easily picked out when they germinate.

I buy my peat from a place about twenty miles way . It's free delivery on all orders over forty quid but their is a charge of about a quid per bag towards delivery . Sadly it only covers a certain towns around there depot . Perhaps their is somewhere near you that does this service. Or perhaps when you go somewhere in your car you could pick some up on your travels if you do your research beforehand .

There is also people on the internet who deliver to your door but the price will depend on how much you are willing to order to keep costs down .

Definitely try smaller independent garden centres. Take a look in the Yellow Pages for some you may nog know about and phone around. I've never heard about Dionaea not liking coco peat but I've never used the stuff anyway. Anyone else confirm this?
