Paulo Minatel
Hi there! Last week I went to the Serra do Ibitipoca, in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. These highlands are home of four Drosera species (D. montana, D. tomentosa, D. communis, and the magnificent D. villosa) and also several species of Utricularia and some of Genlisea, which I couldn't found with flowers as it is the beginning of the winter down here and most species flowers during spring and summer. Some photos: Drosera communis Drosera montana Drosera villosa Drosera villosa and Utricularia reniformis Drosera tomentosa var. glabrata You can check all the photos here: https://www.facebook...70251137&type=1 All the best, Edited June 27, 2013 by Paulo Minatel
Zlatokrt
It has been quite a long time from the last S America field report! Thanks for the pics, i really like them. Adam
Alexander Nijman
Drosera villosa looks very similair to Drosera capensis. I wander if they are closely related, Brasil and South Africa where ones part of Gondwana so how knows. Alexander
Fernando Rivadavia
Great pics, and a beautiful place too. I miss Ibitipoca! :) Alex, it's convergence. D.villosa is most closely related with other tetraploid species from Brazil, but then this group is sister to the African group that includes D.capensis. See this link showing the two species in the Drosera phylogeny.: http://www.amjbot.org/content/90/1/123/F1.expansion.html Or this one: http://www.carnivorousplants.org/cp/EvolutionDrosera.php Best wishes, Fernando Rivadavia P.S. Keep your eyes open for a publication on the D.villosa complex, hopefully over the next few months....

Fernando Rivadavia
Simon, there are tons of beautiful spots to visit in the Chapada Diamantina, which is probably one of the most scenic areas of Brazil!
