Beautiful plants, does the European Pinguiculas should not get anything regarding the beauty of its flowers compared with the Mexican Pings.

Best regards,

I'm not sure now. I know someone on here puts dolomite in with their soil mix for grandiflora but I don't and they're good plants too.

In Peter D'Amato's book it says 'Temperate pings can be found in boggy moors of acidic, peaty soils in North America and Europe, but most often they grow on wet, dripping, gravelly cliffs and grottos, often amid mosses and ferns.....' 'Often the soils that temperate pings grow in are more neutral to alkaline than acid. The habitats in which they grow are usually sunny, but the butterworts are often partly shaded by grasses, ferns, and other low-growing vegetation.' For soil mix it says 'For temperate pings use two parts peat, one part sand, and one part perlite.'

There's a difference between what plants grow in in the wild and what they will tolerate or prefer in cultivation. Temperate pings don't seem too fussy in cultivation and will grow in a variety of mixes. I've mixed limestone and shell into mixes before but with no noticeable benefit, so just stick to moorland gold or cocopeat with plenty of grit and/or perlite added.

Same for Sarracenia, few grow in peat inthe wild except perhaps S. purp purp.

The plants I posted are in a peat/grit /sand mix in an undrained tray. They have been in there for about 5 years. This coming year they will be transfered to a slightly deeper undrained tray.

My main concern would be the temperature at the top end. too high in late spring - summer can send them into premature dormancy. Having said that mine are ok in the current heatwave.
