meizwang
Does P. planifolia seed need to be stratified prior to germination?
Daniel O.
No it does not. But the seed has to be relatively fresh and under my conditions i can say that P. planifolia has the worst germination rate of all the US Pinguicula and it´s the slowest grower. Once the are adult they are much more easy to grow. Best regards, Daniel
meizwang
Thanks Daniel! How long does it take before they sprout, and did you have uniform germination without stratification? I know D. muscipula, for example, doesn't need stratification, but if you stratify them, you get more uniform sprouting. These seeds were harvested a few days ago from my plants, so they're as fresh as can be!
Daniel O.
Well, after about 4 weeks the first seedlings are visible, followed by some more a few weeks later. But the germination rate is really low in comparison to all the other US Pinguicula. Perhaps some kind of stratification would help but i do not have any idea how to do this. I sow out my seed on wet toilett paper, when the seedlings have about 3 leafes i pot them. In the past i made the experiance that this species does not like dead sphagnum substrate mixtures.
