Simon Lumb
Hi I've got a few helis coming into flower folliculata, chimantensis, neblinea, parva and pupurescens. Id quite like to have a go at making a cross but I've always believed there was some black art involved, like having a small hawk mothered tethered on a lead to the flower stem. Can anyone bust this myth for me and offer advice. Thanks S
Dicon
Hi Si I wasn't joking!! (not entirely) The pollen is only relased by high frequency vibration, so try a tuning fork or a sonic toothbrush (handle end) and catch the pollen that falls for use in the usual way. I'm sure someone here has a video of the process involved?
Simon Lumb
Matt I hope you were joking about your second suggestion.

Cephalotus
I am sure that you can always take out pollen from anthers by force. It is not that they are metal proof or something... It is not that I had an occasion to do it myself. I think that there are enough of them to try that on ore or two. The rest should be simple. Ian_P
The electric tooth brush really does work, I've used it on my more stubborn chilli plants. I touch the back of the toothbrush head onto the back of the flower and it shakes out the pollen. There is a specially made tool, but I've only seen them on Amazons U.S. site. Here's the link, http://www.amazon.com/Hydro-Gardens-Pollinator/dp/B0007R576S/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364166524&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=electric+pollinator Hope this is some use. Regards, Ian. gardenofeden
I bought a small tuning fork to do mine and it does seem to work. I have also read as suggested above that it can be done by force, breaking open the tubular anthers and removing the pollen.

Marc S.
Hi Simon, I tried tuning fork and removing the pollen sac with forceps and both works fine, but be sure you pollinate right after the flower opens that much that you can go inside with a cotton bud (my advice for pollination!). Repeat the pollination the day after. Good luck!! Cheers Marc Edited March 25, 2013 by Marc S.
Rodrigo
Hi Simon, a while ago i posted a video i found on Youtube, in another forum, to help those who do not know how to collect the pollen of Heliamphora and i believe it will be of great value to help in the pollination of their CPs : Best regards, Rodrigo
