lucifer
I'm going to construct a bog this year, but any suggestion on non carnivorous plants I can use?
billynomates666
Hi lucifer It depends really on whether you want tall or short, flowers or foliage. The ones that come readily to mind are heather, arum lilly, gunera, astilbe, blueberries, iris and various grasses. If you intend to grow carnivorous plants with them they may well create too much shade to be in the same proximity, also you will need to be careful with some of them them as they will get invasive. Gerhard Raschun
It depends also from the size of the bog : I would suggest Ledum palustre, Chamaedaphne calyculata, differnt other members of the Ericaceae. Be careful with Eriophorum, the better way is to use Trichoporum alpinum. Some Viola species are situable, but invasive. Very beautiful are some orchids like Calopogon, Pogonia, Eleorchis.... http://www.cypripedium.at/Fotoalbum%20Insektivoren/Hochmoor%202010a.JPG http://www.cypripedium.at/Fotoalbum%20Insektivoren/Hochmoor%202010b.JPG http://www.cypripedium.at/Fotoalbum%20Insektivoren/Hochmoor%202010c.JPG
FredG
It's worth trying out a few terrestrial orchids. Pogonia ophioglossoides should run happily through the bog. Calopogon tuberosus and Eleorchis japonica should also be happy. Epipactis gigantea is another I would definitely try. There are others, depending on how varied the conditions are in your bog
