linuxman
Thought this winter was going to be fairly painless with the relatively mild winter. However, while in the greenhouse yesterday I found the dreaded botrytis on my S. x areolata (MK H36). I dug it up and cut open the rhizome to find most of it was dead and brown. One part still had some white tissue so have replanted that and am hoping for the best. A real shame as only got this plant last June at Mike's open day. Shows you can't be too vigilant! Gaz
Sorry to hear that Martin, a shame to lose plants so quickly. I got a couple of plants from Mike's last June too, I'd hate to lose them. Good luck with the replanted section.
Daniel G
Damn. I suppose I'd better check mine outside... I hope you get a strike on the "cutting"
ada
sorry to hear that Martin. If it was from Mikes june open day things should have been fine. This winter has been relatively mild, but shutting the greenhouse up when its cold and damp is often a factor in botrytis i think.I always open up the greenhouse in daylight hours,to let fresh air through. But that said, some clones just dont like the cold and damp or what grows well for one person in their conditions just doesn't perform under different conditions for someone else. ada
gotcher
I leave the side vents in my greenhouse open all year round . As ada said they need air movement . I also take all the trays out so their isn't as much damp around this will also help you .
linuxman
Yes I agree with you Ada and Gotcher, I normally leave the greenhouse door open as well. But this recent wet weather has made squelching to the greenhouse a bit difficult sometimes. I've never had problems with Mike's plants before so I'm sure it's something I've done (or not done).I left it in the same small pot it came in. I wonder if transferring it to a bigger pot would have helped?
