tuberous drosera in vitro

Hi,

congratulation to your success! May I ask in which media and conditions you raise them? How long does it take for germination of fresh seeds??

I did a first try in 1/5 MS, 1% sugar and vitamins at a pH of 5.6-5.7 with D. browniana, D. graniticola, D. aff. stolonifera, D. moorei and D. platypoda, but so far no germination.

Kind regards

Marc

Marc S.: For tuberous drosera 20%MS might be not strong enough, especially if you also only have 20% content of microelements. Also only 1% sucrose is quite weak solution, they would do fine but you would have to replate them inconvenently often. I use 35-50%MS (100%micro) and 2.5-5% sucrose). More sucrose and longer light periods can help iduce tuber formation. Germination can be quite tricky because most of the tuberous species, a pre-treatment with sterile solution of some giberelin is needed. (For d.menziesii and d. peltata varieties the solution of NaOCl would do the job). Good luck! :-)

Dieter: If I recall correctly, the seeds were provided by yourself, so if you'd like some plants just let me know;)

Thanks a lot - I think I will wait, if they germinate without treatment and try it another time with GA. Most fresh seeds of tuberous Drosera should germinate without treatment so I give it a try. I sterilize my seeds with ethanol in old DNA collums: 1st 100% EtOH plus 0.5% triton, 2nd 50% EtOH with 0.5% triton, 3rd 100% EtOH - inbetween I centrifuge at 1000 xg for 30s.

Please keep us updated about your progress!

cheers

Marc

:peekaboo: Pssst, it was me.....

Great to see them flowering. It was my first cross with D.macrophylla ssp macrophylla x D.macrophylla ssp. monantha because I had no

flowering plants of the same ssp.

But luckily, last month my D.macrophylla ssp. monantha were flowering together for the first time!!

Also curious for the D.rupicola colours, this season I managed to pollinate plants of the same colour. I'll send you new seeds asap!!

Well done mate!! Cheers!

Iggy

Hey Iggy Yes I remember these seeds of some tuberous drosera crosses were indeed received from your kind seedbank. They really germinated very well! (You have always been a guarantee of quality:-)

You have a PM;)
