Valcarnivores
Hello, Marc your terrarium is to light(enlighten) that with artificial lightings or he(it) there is a contribution of daylight?
Marc S.
Hi, both highland terrariums don't get any daylight! For my Nepenthes terrarium I use a 120W LED panel (before 3x 70W HCI), as I mentioned already lately, and for my Heliamphora I just installed a 150W LED panel (before 4x 54W T5 tubes)... ;-) Cheers Marc
Marc S.
Some more news... My crowded Tepui Drosera pot with 5 different roraime loactions, 2 loactions of hirticalyx, kaieteurensis, solaris, meristocaulis and spec. Duida... The colouration of my Nepenthes is quite good under the LED light... Nepenthes hamiguitanensis Nepenthes villosa is doing well after repotting! The first flower of 4 is open and I'm quite excited to see this species flowering in my collection!!!

Vince81
Great Utricularia Marc, nice achievement. How do you grow it ?
Marc S.
Hi Vince, thanks, the first two years i grew it in my highland terrarium under a dropping nozzle and now it's in a tray next to my terrarium under T5 tubes! I don't grow it much different to my other tuberous Drosera - I may water it a bit more from above and keep it in lower pots... The substrate is a quite sandy mix... there is not more than 50% peat (rather lower amount) and the rest is fine and coarse (~2-3mm) sand, but just fine sand seems to work as well! Marc S.
A few updates: Utricualria menziesii My Heliamphora are also under LED (150W) now... Cheers Marc
werds
Really nice! Do you have your Utricularia menziesii in a terrarium?
Marc S.
Hi, Thx, the last two years yes, but this year there was no space anymore in my terrariums and I placed them on a tray under T5 tubes... ;-) Kind regards Marc
Marc S.
Here some updates of some Nepenthes pitchers... Nepenthes macrophylla, which made slightly smaller pitchers after changing the lights to LED... Nepenthes hurreliana made an upper pitcher, which I missed... ...the new one seems to be more intermediate again! Nepenthes ceciliae is also growing very well under my conditions which are quite cold at the moment (for 4-5 month below 20°C). vraev
I've always admired your tank Marc. Love your macro and hurrelliana. Thanks for sharing. I am just experimenting with some LED in my tank as well and the results look promising. Although it cost an arm and a leg to get it to the optimum level of light. pim
I was wondering whether one LED panel is enough for a tank of your size? I have a similar sized tank (1m) and am looking to change my lighting to an LED panel (http://www.ebay.com/itm/301074878083), but I doubt that it would be sufficient. Anyhow, you have an amazing collection of Heliamphoras and Nepenthes!
Marc S.
Big thanks to both of you! The panel in your link looks good. Mine has UV (380-400nm) and warm white (2800K) leds, which your panel is lacking, but yours has two additional (410nm & 500nm) wavelength. I would trust my panel more than yours, because it's covering more "unknown" wavelength and in adding pure green LED (500nm) I don't see much sense, except turning the overall reddish light into a more comfortable one for our eyes... Also the ratio of the different wavelength is important! I just heard from the results with the LED strips where better results were achieved when using IR and UV spectra compared to the same strip without... That's all I can say - at the end you have to try out otherwise you will never now, because most of the experiences are just beeing carried out at the moment. For my panel I have the feeling that its very good for Nepenthes species from Sumatra but the ones from Borneo don't like it as much as the others... ... but this impression might change! pim
Marc, I think you're right about the UV, since most of our plants don't experience any real sun light (my plants are also located in our basement, as dictated by my girlfriend...). but I have yet to find LED panels with UV-diodes and with an interesting wavelength distribution.
